Id just like to get some feedback from users. I have a music room that was put to bed in about the year 2000 - hardware kit such as Emu e6400, Yamaha QY700 sequencer various synths and modules etc. It has a Roland VS880 which I loved dearly. I am now thinking of putting the studio back together and buying a used VS2480. My question is this - am I crazy to go against the stream of DAW + plugins users? My thinking is, I love the idea of dedicated hardware units and I regard zero latency as a minimum requirement. I can get a used 2480 for about 600. What would you do? Is a VS 2480 still viable? Id really like to hear from users as tonwhether they would still support my choice of used VS 2480 or would they hold out and go the laptop route ?

Thanks in advance \:\)

2480 all the way!!!

DAWs have their place, too, but latency is not fun, and all of the extra interfaces are expensive. Then there's all the drivers, compatibility on your desktop/laptop, and the worst....all the learning curve when all we really want to do is create.

If you have the time and you have the money, DAW + new laptop is good investment. It will run circles around the 2480 in the long run....but only after much more money and much more time...a lot!!!

Worked on the 2480 since 2005 and it's still going strong! I only recently added a dedicated PC/DAW (Reaper) to do more complex mixes and for compatibility. At the moment, I really enjoy tracking everything on the 2480 (16 inputs + no latency of course) and then importing the tracks into a DAW for mixing.

I'm thankful for resources like the VSplanet that help keep the roland running!

This sounds like a good idea and quite an affordable way to go. Thanks.
