I was hoping to get some feedback from my fellow Planeteers on the drum mix from the link below. I apologize that the song isn't vocally complete, but I've got to make room for more tracks for vocals, and the drums are in my way (8tracks).

The drums you'll hear have already been bounced to a stereo track, but I'm asking as many sources as possible if they think the sounds/mix is good enough to keep as is. Keep in mind that the instruments are roughly/quickly mixed, and no mastering has taken place.

Thanks in advance. I've still got 15 vocal tracks to do and need the space.

Edit: This was recorded with the 2480 and VS8F2 effects.

on my pc's speakers, the snare is the loudest instrument in the mix. It's like getting whacked in the head, almost. Maybe a bit too loud and too much "smack" tone.

Other than that, I'm not aware of any toms... I listened to about 1.5 minutes....

Great voice!

Your stuff is really good, do what it takes to get a 2nd 2480 and sync them together so you won't have to bounce stuff down. It will make a tremendous difference! In the meantime, try saving SCENES of what you are bouncing down, so you can instantly recall where you were at to make minor adjustments.

Kick sounded good, snare maybe just a slight loud, but what was really way low were the cymbals, esp. hi hat.

Thanks guys. Really appreciate the feedback. Uptildawn, I hear the snare issue as well. The song is so full of instrument takes (about 30) that I was having a hard time getting the drums to punch through and maybe overdid it a little. The tom parts I'll have to look into. I can hear them pretty well on my Tannoy 802's.

Keeppracticing, I have actually been looking at purchasing a second 2480. Having said that, what about creating a submix versus recalling a scene? Isn't the submix on the 2480 just a stereo bounce to an available stereo track(s)? While I know how to save a scene, will the effects (loop) on the drums return to the current state if I change everything on those tracks for vocals? I know that's a stupid question since it's saving a scene, but Man I am running out of room. Literally have 3 tracks available right now and am terrified of losing any of this stuff.

Any continued advice is much appreciated.

Ok, but when I eventually recall the current setting in order to come back to the drums, won't that recall the setting of all 24 tracks? What I mean is, if I've recorded tracks over the current drum tracks that I am saving now, get them finished and bounce them, won't that affect the tracks I just bounced since I am recalling a previous scene?

Hoping that makes sense. Just not sure how to mix different scenes from the same tracks.

Thanks Wigypsy, but dangit! I just pulled some of the verb off the snare. LOL! Now I've got to put it back where I had it.

Seriously, thanks for the compliment.

No worries, great job! I almost always dial back a little verb upon the next-day listen, ha! Always reminds me of what Rick Rubin said "I like reverb, but I don't want to hear it!"

powermac, you have a THUMP in the very low end around 1:30.778 (probably longer by about 2 seconds on your copy), that lasts for approximately .040 seconds.

It imitates the kick and it 'kinda' is in sync with it, but not sure that it goes there.

You should check it out because it's hard to tell on a full mix.

Great Ear Falcon Eddy!!! I heard that exact thump last week. It was the outside kick mic... Compressing it changed the sound a little to much, so I'm just going to automate that spot down a little. Seems to work better in this instance sonically.

Again that was really detailed hearing, man. I'm impressed.

Edit: Dang man how did you hear that?! The part that you mentioned in your post WASN'T the part I thought it was in my above comment. I isolated the drums and there it was. I never heard it and I've spent 20 hours listening to them. Oh, and definitely not supposed to be there. Now I've got to figure out what it is.

Thanks again, bud.
