How do you record a click track? I don't see the metronome in EZ Routing like on the 2400. Thanks

One way might be to output the click sound through one set of physical outputs, while simultaneously recording it into one of the physical inputs (looping it back in, in other words). Be sure to mute the audio to the output of your recording track, so you can see the click on the meter, but not hear it, so as to not loop it back through.

I use an external MIDI synth(Roland SC-7) and then route it into an unused input.
Additionally, there is more control over click sound and volume this way.

Hi MeteorSharks, I'm wondering why you want to record a click track? Not saying you shouldn't, just interested.

I have a band with guys from all over the country. They all need the click that I start a project with. That way the tracks they send ne back will all line up easily.

Has anyone been able to do this? I've tried everything posted and everything I can think of. Can't make it happen. And when I try to run a cable from monitor out to a track, it works, but it's just a little out of time. Thanks, Ron

You can fix the delayed click track by editing it. Assuming you have a recorded track of your click - turn off your VS's click, so you only hear the recorded click.
1- Set the timeline on zero and set that to LOC button 4/to.
2- Make your click track the hot channel and then use the scrub button and tv dial to audibly find the start of the delayed sound of the first beat (assuming 4 beats to the measure, this would an accented beat, assuming the recording starts with beat 1). Set this as LOC 1/start and LOC 3/from
3- Use Shift/FF to go to the end of the SONG and set that to LOC 2/end
4- Go into Track Move edit mode.
5- Use the SEL TR button to go to the screen and select your click track as the desired track to edit. 6- Go back to the main track move view and use the down/up arrow buttons to move your cursor to each of the 4 position entry lines - Use your LOC buttons to move the timeline position to each of the 4 points and hit NOW to enter the timeline position of the corresponding LOC point for that entry. 7- Leave INSERT turned off 8- Hit EXEC to complete the edit.
Your click should now begin precisely on beat one. If you turn the metronome back on now, you should hear both click playing together and staying in sync. If they are not exact, but sound essentially like one thick beat, then your edit is good enough.
If they "flap", then your edit isn't tight enough and you need to undo that edit and try repositioning the recorded click slightly forward or backward to meet the metronome click more precisely. Actually, you might get away with it as is, but not if you want the most precision.
If the two are not close enough, you can determine whether your recorded track is ahead or behind the metronome by turning its volume slightly higher or lower than the metronome, so you can tell which is which. That will tell you which way you need to adjust the TO position on your track edit screen (after you first use UNDO to return to the unedited state - the marker locations will stay as you made them) - You may need to adjust the Start/From positions instead, of the TO position is set to zero timeline. This will fine tune the place where the click sound begins..... Sometimes the scrub can be too precise for setting the start of a beat and so you might need to move out in front of it slightly, or into it more... sometimes it take a bit of trial and error to learn the 'feel' of the process.

Well, this was a lot to grasp onto, but I did get it lined up using the tempo map, phrase move and the scrub.
With the 8400 I used to just draw a line in EZR.
Thanks, Ron

I can see images of the hours I've spent lining up a recorded click track with the tempo map, changing the tempo map, etc., etc., etc....... ugh!
It's probably much more simple in my pc daw today, but unfortunately most of my work has not involved actually recording studio projects for a long time, so I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I don't think I even know how!
