The only way possible is by the addition of an external CD burner connected via the SCSI port. There's very few burners that are compatible with the 880 - Here is a list of them posted by dkfackler in 2017. There are no others that have ever been confirmed and if you hope that anything else works, it's a pot shot you will have to take. Note that most of them are just variations of the same few models:

Note that your Ricoh model is listed, but didn't work on my (then) 1680.

Here is a list of the working drives:
JVC --
XR-W2010R2626
XR-W2040
XR-W2042 ***

TEAC --
CD-R55S
CD-R56S
CD-W512SB

RICOH --
MP6200S-- didn't work for me.

PLEXTOR QPS --
CD-R PX-R412C
CD-R PX-R820T
CD-R PX-W4220T (recently reconfirmed)
CD-R PX-W8220T (recently reconfirmed)
CD-R PX-W124TS (recently reconfirmed)
CD-R PX-W8432T
CD-R PX-W1210S (recently reconfirmed)
CD-R PX-W

Oh - I should add that considering how expensive new stock of these drives are and considering how a person must trust that one of these models will work, if purchased used, you might give some serious thought to purchasing Bill Casey's VirDIS system for PC.

Although it's some serious money, it's no more than a new old stock CD burner that has very limited usefulness outside of using it with the VS today. Bill has been recently perfecting his software to perform the standard CD functions of a VS external burner (besides it already fantastic usefulness as an external VS hard drive). I'm very hopeful that his tests with the 1680 will carry over to the 880 as well.

Even though it's not ready yet, it appears to be very close now. At least look at the VirDIS forum here on the Planet and read up a bit on it. I would strongly suggest that you also send Bill a Private Message (PM) and ask him about it in regards to the 880. He's the VirDIS developer. I have been excited to be able to test some of the new changes lately and especially those that will allow us 1680/880 users to add CD operations to its uses!

This would be huge for people looking for some external storage and backup solutions beyond what is quickly becoming a scare and more expensive than ever external SCSI option.

I hope this helps and doesn't discourage you.

I tried for years to get a Plextor W4220Te working with my VS880 Ex. Never would recognize it.

I would really advise staying away from those scsi CD writers. They were terrible when they were new and haven't gotten any better. They only do one thing and they don't do it well. Your money would be better spent elsewhere, especially considering your recorder is a VS-880 which has a great sound and f/x but only records in 16 bits.

An audio interface with MIDI and a digital input will allow you to sync your recorder to a PC. Then you don't have to worry about getting your tracks off of the recorder.

Greetings, been using QPS 525 burner/880 since '99 purchase, no problems. Messed up 880, bought 1680 thinking they were same, but it won't let me edit 880 uploads. Burner worked perfect on 1680, but new 880 won't accept it. Can anyone help, PLEASE!. Found drummer and have tons of old demos. Raining down in Texas.

The 1680 DOES allow you to edit 880 files. Once you've loaded an 880 file into the 1680. Perform a SONG IMPORT - this will unlock the 880 formatted SONG, through making a copy in the 1680 format, which leaves the locked 880 SONG untouched. You can delete the 880 SONG after the import if you like. You need to have enough hard drive free space to accommodate the imported copy, so be sure you have ample space.

Try that and see if it helps.

It worked!! God bless you for your help!! It was worth spending a few $$ on the 880 just for the breakthru you provided. I had already re-tracked 30 songs. Now I can "import" & continue using the old demos. Thank you!!
