Now touring in Russia with the Hollywood Vampires (including Alice Cooper and Joe Perry), fan pix show a gaunt and pale Depp. In fact, Depp now looks as bad as Alice Cooper did 30 years ago! Like him or not, he starred in some of my favorite movies over the years. Speculation runs the gamut from drugs, to aids to prep for a new movie role. Hmm - I wonder...

Take the picture with a large grain of salt. He looks more than fine in the video, much better than most his age....and happy too.
Johnny Depp is, without a doubt, one of the best actors of his generation. And now, he gets to play guitar and live the life of a rock star.....good for him.

Depp has played guitar his whole life. It’s not like suddenly he’s decided to play rock star. He has been “playing” that his whole life. I don’t know what Fox Noobs motivation is behind such a weird article....but, they’ve got 30 years of intentional misleading of the public with an agenda, so it makes me wonder if Depp has said something recently they need to cast doubt on....with the sheeple who they feed their brand of shit.

I've worked with rock stars and film stars. As a rule, rock stars all want to get into the movies while movie stars all want to be rock stars.
And they are all convinced that the real money is in the other business.

Pop, I, like you, followed a link to see the article and photo's on Fox. I, probably like you, never watch fox, and only hear about it when trump's gratuitous communications with their 'news' desk pop up elsewhere in the legitimate press I do read/watch.

That's the scary part. Some tabloid reports something....and "real news" uses it as a source. If gives credibility to the story that is undeserving.

Sorry to say, Rolling Stone's interview of Depp is the most tragic, depressing story I've read in a long time. He got way in over his head in the Hollywood lifestyle and is centerpiece in numerous lawsuits and bankrupcies. He spends his waking hours (in cover of darkness), drunk and stoned. He conceded that he has become worried that he will enter a place eyes open, and leave eyes closed.

He's a fine actor, but I don't like his role choices most of the time. Hope he regains control of the bus before it careens into tragedy.

Yah.... The poor-rich-famous-successful me thing is tiresome. That's why the typical rockstar "Road Songs" make me shake my head in disgust.
I'm out here on the road Been gone for thirty weeks I miss my family so In a bus with dirty freaks
Another faceless crowd Another town gone by I feel so doggone anguished It makes me wanna cry
Blah blah blah…
The first one I can remember is that Bob Seeger crap song Turn the Page. But if I'm not mistaken just about every major rock act has penned one at some time or another.

You’re entitled to dislike the Seger song and write off a whole category of songs too. But, in the context you’ve stated which is barely germane(look it up if you need to..it’s not a singer from the jackson5 btw) to the Depp comments, it’s important to keep in mind that in the early winter of 1972, traveling from Ann Arbor Michigan to the Dakotas, Bob Seger was neither rich or famous.
It’s only because you’re familiar with the live version as your first exposure to the song, not the original, which I own, signed. In fact, Seger was in the very first rock band I’ve ever seen, playing in our back yard inside our screened in porch one summer in Detroit.

I think Depp looks fine in the videos. Perhaps slightly uncomfortable on stage, like he's making moves he’s supposed to, rather than what the music or guitar makes him do, or look like. But, he’s new to all this and someone like Perry has decades of stage time. Doesn’t matter to me if he wants a crack at band stuff. His face and fame wears off after ten minutes on stage and you’re left with another hour of having to deliver music.
In a movie, nearly everything about your persona has been crafted for you: the story, lines, the makeup, blocking, the camera angles, the lighting the editing. What’s left ? the actor to brings to life the character. And perhaps the actors get a little too much credit for the end product and success. But Depp has been terrific in his roles.
Everyone has demons. Fame and early wealth can frequently magnify or augment those demons and often there aren’t solid close people in your life to step in and help steer the way. The gravy train of fame often creates a force field of yes-people around you
I did demos and a couple albums for a young promising artist here in town. Those recordings and her performances caught the interest of Depp and his then new label. She got signed and made a couple records with Depp, toured around, opening for some good artists. All reports were that he was nice, kind, fair, passionate about music and had a good ear. Since then the label folded. But on his dime, she got to realize a slice of a rare experiences for a creative artist.

That's a great post, kel.
Perspective. Judgement. Empathy.
People in the world would be better if we could have more or less of those traits, IMHO.

Rolling Stone's long form article was written by a guy who was invited inside Depp's home and spent the better part of a week with him. Apparently, Depp was asleep all day and drunk on wine and stoned on hash all night. That alone is a recipe for disaster.
Johnny's Mom was an abusive train wreck herself. That scenario is awfully hard for a kid to come out of 'normal'. When his money started coming in, he bought a nice house on a horse ranch for his Mom and family.
Marlon Brando, Hunter S. Thompson and Keith Richards are the 3 men in the world that he most respects (and emulates). With heroes like that, who needs enemies.
To a large degree, I have no argument with those who are sick of the 'poor me, I'm so rich and popular' syndrome. I agree that from the outside, his lifestyle is despicable. But I know from my own experience, there are events and situations in life that leave a lasting impression and unconscious scars that may evidence themselves in self destructive behavior that looks deplorable from the outside and takes a deep dive to even connect to the root cause.

It's still a whiny song, as are all of the other songs that strive to replicate it (look it up). And I really could give a flying rat's ass if you have a signature of a man who totally wasted his talent on crap songs.
He has one of the best rock and roll voices ever, and he sings songs for idiots. That is my opinion. Yours may differ.

From Johnny Depp to Bob Seeger, four more degrees to Kevin Bacon.

A bass player buddy of mine had a cassette of Back in '72 which he played over and over and over again on the way to gigs.
He(Seger)sings songs for idiots. That is my opinion.
Something about those two notions makes me laugh

Why the attack on kel, Moosey?
Perhaps he has supplanted Al as the new resident clumsily-worded, opinionated musicologist ? There has been a void you know
