Hi, new to this and not very technical but here goes. I have a couple of tracks that I cannot hear. Everything is lit up and volumes are up but I can't hear anything. There is also nothing showing on the meters in the top right hand corner. They were playing fine a couple of weeks ago and I can't figure out what I've done. Any help much appreciated.

One thing to check is the status above F6 on the normal play screen. It should be set to M->REC. If it's not, then toggle through the three button presses to get there.

The individual channel meters should be displaying something in any case, however, the Monitor and Master meters will not display anything, unless your playing Master Tracks in M->PLAY mode. I don't remember what happens in M->OFF mode.

Offhand, I can't think of anything as specific as this setting to suggest. There a probably a number of other reasons you could get what you're getting.

Post back with an update and tell us what you find out. Also, if the issue persists, be sure to give us as many details of what you've done and how the machine is set up, in order for us to try and imagine where the problem could be.

Maybe in the meantime, somebody else will also have a suggestion or two.

Good luck...... welcome to the Planet, too.

Sorry for delay. Have just tried the M-Rec and still nothing. There is also nothing happening on the individual channel meters, but the track bars ( if thats the right description sorry ) are dark blue to say that there's something there. I can't think what I've done. Does this mean I've lost it.

Do you know how to reinitialize your mixer settings?
Pg 192 of the 1680 pdf manual has complete instructions on how to do this. It's possible that this process may restore some setting/adjustment you made between the time it last played right and now.....

Have you checked all you physical connections and settings from the 1680 through to you speakers and or headphones? - that would not account for there not being any activity on your meters.

You could try using track exchange to temporarily move those tracks from the channels they are currently on, to a different pair to see if you then get sound, but I'm not sure that this would have anything to do with why there's not activity on the meters as well.

Have you checked you channel mute setting? Maybe you muted the track mixer on the channels that once played okay.

Have you checked a different song file - if you have one to check?

Have you tried recording anything new onto the machine in any way whatsoever, in order to discover if there's something wrong with the machine?

You need to try as many ideas as you can come up with....... You also need to be able to describe the conditions at your end with more detail, if there's any chance we might see a possible solution - other than the pot shots I have been taking for you.

Is it possible that you recorded on v track 1 and inadvertently switched it to v track 2 on the channel in question?

The "track bars" being "dark blue" just means that those tracks had been armed to record, then the transport run in Record mode-- it doesn't indicate the presence of any actual recorded material.

Are you getting any meter deflection when monitoring a 'live' signal? If not, you may not be recording anything. These wonderful machines are tricky at first-- something may actually not be routed properly.

Keep asking questions-- someone here will help you.
