While taking apart my mixer today I noticed what appears to be an unused internal 50 pin male SCSI connector labeled CN2
and a spot for a B2B-PH-K-S JST power connector labeled CN3. I've searched around, but have yet to find any information regrading this
not even the service manual list the parts nor does it give any description about their presence. Here is a photo showing off the SCSI connector (CN2) & the potential connector (CN3);

After pondering my conclusion was that they were going to add hdd or cd capabilty for recording sessions similar to what the vsr 880 and vs890 can do.
But later decided not to due to budget or time constraints and instead choose flash memory to store event and settings files since they require little memory nor require file compression.
Another thing I've noticed is that the RPC-1 has an unused a 34 pin connector too I wonder what it purpose was.

If we cannot use it then someone would have to dump the firmware and program instructions inorder for the mixer to recognize/interact with the connected device.
Unfortunately we may never know for certian what their intentions was for these unallocated connectors.
So to anyone who reads this that can share some insight on this matter please do, Thank you.

What makes you think this is a SCSI connector? It might be... but it might be something else also...

I do not know the internals of the VM3100 - but I do know the VS1680, and have a full service manual for it

In the 1680 the IS a 50 pin SCSI connector unused internal, (although some units I have seen do not have the connector loaded, just the place for it on the board)..... but there is also an identical 50 connector that is used by factory test - and an identical 50 pin connector is the connection for the IDE hard drive.

The RBUS uses a 25 pin connector - I do not know why there would be a 34 pin connector involved.

If someone had a service manual for this we could sort it out.

BTW - in my 1680 I have a SCSI CF card adapter hooked to the internal 50 pin SCSI connector and it works fine

You have both internal connections occupied? Or did you just use the internal connector for ease of connecting without all the adapters?

I do not know what you mean by "both internal connections"

I have a CF card SCSI adapter hooked to the internal 50 pin, a 20 gig IDE drive hooked to the internal IDE 50 pin and a cd burner and a zip hooked to the external SCSI 25 pin (although usually not the zip unless I need it... I also have an external CF drive I can hook to the external SCSI if I wish...)

Nevermind........ I'd forgotten that the hard drive and scsi connector were not the same path.

Here is the service manual

I wouldn't doubt if it's a SCSI or a IDE connector for a diagnostics tool used for testing and to initial the flash the load onto the unit.
If that is true then that's rather disappointing because I had hoped it was something more. Although the chances of it being an IDE connector for storage devices
is not ruled out since we're not certain yet. Hypothetically speaking though if it is indeed an IDE connector couldn't I just connect a 40 pin or 44 pin hdd?

Edit: Upon further inspection I overlooked what obliviously states the part PS-50PE-D4T1-B1 which corresponds with a tool board according to the schismatic from the service manual:

Oh well I had fun researching and now my question is finally answered.

Thanks for the manual... if you look at the page of schematic MAIN BOARD 1/4 the connector CN2 is listed as "to tool". I am afraid this is a factory test connector not a SCSI or an IDE port...

Interesting to note - the board that provides the RBUS is pretty trivial - it would be pretty simple to adapt the non-PRO model VM3100 that does not have RBUS to the PRO RBUS model (if you could get the PRO firmware to work)

I do not see the other 34 pin connector you referred to...

Yup I had came to the realization after I had dig deeper into the service manual and also I found other topics on this forum relating to this subject on vs mixers.
So by the time I had edited my perverse post it was already too late to inform you. Thank you bear for your helpful input I really do appreciate it I've learned some valuable information.

Browse for a picture of the rpc-1 on google and you'll see the internal 34 pin connector I'm referring to.

See for yourself;

If you observe closely there are cables connecting to the board and the effects expansion card according to manual the VM3100 requires the OPTION HOLDER, RMDB BOARD ASSY, & EFFECT BOARD ASSY (assuming you somehow manage to get a hold of these). Considering it'd be easier/cheaper to purchase a vm3100 pro I can understand why Roland offered two different versions simply due to the price ratio of each added component.
