So has R-Bus basically been replaced by REAC, and is there a way to convert a R-Bus signal to REAC?
I have a M200i V-Mixer with REAC and it would be awesome to bus in/out R-Bus from/to my VS.

I only know the REAC system by way of the one we used in a school auditorium. The preamps were strictly Roland, rack mounted and sent over cat5 to the control room. Actually, I think we ended up going analog in the end, because of some configuration issues... anyway...
I have no idea if anyone (including Roland) might have created some sort of adapter/converter/interface for R-Bus to REAC.
At some point, our system in the control room went to a pc and interface with Sonar as the daw on it. Sonar was equipped to "see" the cat5 as a legit audio path for ins and outs. But it seems to me that I could not access these I/O's from any other daw. I think it was proprietary between Roland and Sonar - of course, it would be, if you know the history of the VS recorders...

I think we had to use analog routing from the stage to the control room, because we sere still using an analog console and for other routing locations, so my experience with it is probably not the best example for what you may be looking for.
I never did get into their whole v-mixer systems and the a/v control and such that they attempted to make as an all-in-one solution...... I don't know what's happened to REAC's development since then... you might do some web searches to see if it's even relevant today, or how expensive it might be to outfit your own gear needs.
We ultimately changed to a Behringer x32 system, with a physical digital console and separate recording module thing.... It has worked very well for me in that I am able to connect my laptop and choice of daw to either the main console or the recording module and record up to 32 simultaneous tracks through a USB2 connection.

I know a little about the Roland/Cakewalk connection because I own a SI-24, however I only have Macs. Sounds like a PC would have to be the bridge between any R-Bus signal and a REAC system.

Not to take anything away from the great system that Roland was gearing toward, but as I suspected, it doesn't appear to be actively produced today and the newest youtube video I see is at least three years old, with most being well over 5 years old.
Interesting how they began the digital portastudio revolution with an a/v machine - the predecessor of the 880 and then ended up with a system meant to bring the a/v world together once again some years later..... and then to shut it all down? That's still a puzzle to me.

I don't get it either. I would like to know if there is a formula to determine how long is too long to wait for a Roland product line to be updated.
On the upside, REAC stuff might get cheaper as long as no one famous declares them vintage then I'm screwed.
I was looking at those later Roland AV boxes and they seemed pretty cool. I don't know how useful they would be standalone, but maybe integrated with Final Cut they'd have some purpose.
OT
Is there a thread on here about Roger Nichols' VS 2400 FX cards? There is very little info on YouTube but they look incredible. (And it's "The Immortal" making an after market FX card for an out of production Roland product.)

Take a look at the price for any VS-related product other than the main machine (like the fx cards, for instance) and see how high the prices can go, long after the demise of the product production.
REAC, being hardware-based, prices may come down because people don't want them cluttering up their spaces, because there is no foreseeable afterlife for them.
I don't know that any of these products are very useful as standalone, unless they can be functional outside of their proprietary connections.
Don't have a clue about Roger Nichols' VS cards.
