Hi

I have a VS1880 , a friend of mine has an VS2400 .
We want to work on eachothers projects . What are our options to transfer projects ?

I made this first try with a project of my vs 1880 i packed it with the roland VS wave export program . And birned it on a disk . My friend is gonna tru now to import that in the VS2400 .

I have a CF card in my VS1880
Anny options for making the VS2400 read a CD card ?
A SCSI card reader would be nice ! But i only see people tamk about it never found one to buy

Would be great someone could help

First of all - best of luck with the projects!

I think I recall that the Pack option in VSWE was not necessarily useful for what you want to do - I don't recall how exactly it is meant to be used, but I don't think you want to use it to put tracks onto the 2400.... forgive me, if I am wrong. It's been a very long time since the Pack option was described to me.

I think that to simply use Export to extract .wav files from your 1880 backup tracks is all that's needed. Burn those to a disc in data format (not as an audio cd) and your friend should be able to import those to the 2400.

For the smoothest and time-saving transfers, be sure and follow the advice given in the 2400 about importing .wav files.... Try to always use the same recording mode and sample rate as your friend.

I don't believe that the 2400 can read a CF card outright, without a scsi connector for external cf/hd built unit, or a converted internal drive, you're stuck with .wav file import/export, I think. I hope I'm wrong, but at least the 2400 has import/export capabilities - more than can be said for the 1880 (and my 1680 unfortunately).

On your end of things - you can't import or export .wav files to/from your VS projects and are forced to export your CF card tracks to .wav files via VSWE (VS Wave Export) to get them onto a pc. But you have no way to transfer wav files back to the 1880 and are forced to record them from a player or the pc in realtime through the VS's analog or digital paths.

It will certainly be a process......... and hopefully you will find some creative solutions (that you can post back to us here, so we can thank you and benefit from your progress \:\) ).

In my own experience, a friend and I both used 1680's and were able to send backup discs (and later cf cards) to each other through the mail in order to collaborate. The advantage for us was that our VS machines were exactly alike in design and function.

I had always wanted to be able to upload/download projects through the web/cloud, but we never got that far...... at least not yet.

roland has some good article still around explaining how to do this.

Synching the VS-2400CD with the VS-1680/1880/1824

or if you want to try a 3 way

Connecting Three VS-1680/1880/1824 Recorders Together

Although this is great information on how to use multiple VS recorders together, in the same space, it doesn't describe the process the OP was asking about - that of transferring data between two machines and sharing projects at two different locations.
