btw - thanks again to all that made that happen and continue to patiently deal with my obtuse stupidity.

Anyway, been converting all my VS1680 files into Reaper, then rendering those for use in ProTools. THEY SOUND GREAT.

One tip that took me a while ... basically:

After you have opened all the converted tracks in Reaper, make sure you click on one track, then [CTRL A] select all, then choose Render.

That way you ensure you are rendering all tracks. I made that mistake on a couple VS Song Files and scratched my head over "missing" tracks.

Yup. It was my fault. Now I know and wanted to share ... and put this clue here for my future me.

Shout out to future me.

wulp, pretty much all done converting and importing files from the VS-1680

The tracks exhumed were pretty good sounding in ProTools. The sound was there all along.

I can now sell my VS-1680, which had been lurking in a case in a closet for a good solid decade. Still runs great. And most of the functions and buttons came back to me, only hazy for a couple things. Intuitive after a fashion.

Great little machine. Only downside is the proprietary file.

Why don't you just keep your 1680? The rdac kind of sounds a little analog-y when recording, and I just picked up a second machine online in perfect shape for $175...not much incentive to sell at that price!
