I have a 2003 2480 and over the past few years I have lost phantom power to five of my inputs. The machine doesn't have a tremendous amount of hours on it. I'm just a home recording guy but have done a couple of cd projects for my band and other people. I also, thanks to this forum, just found out about the pre amp fix and crank. Did the analyzer check and some of my pres do seem to have a bit of noise on them, but not terrible. After the check I did some recording and things seemed quieter. Maybe just a fluke. I have fought for years with my final mixes, getting that sort of distorted, compressed sound when trying to get the volume up to where I wanted it and now I'm guessing the pres had something to do with that. I'm a newbie and this is my first post. This is such a great forum. Wish I would have discovered it years ago. Has anyone else had the phantom power issue? Thanks for reading. Doc H.

Welcome to the planet, Poppa!

I have not experienced the phantom power issue, sounds like it could be some malfunction on the input panel board but I'm sure someone who knows way more than me will chime in soon enough.

You could always use an external phantom power supply until you find the culprit. Good luck!

Thanks for responding. I've heard others mention about the power board which feeds the pre amps. Trouble with all these parts is where do you get them now?

The power board (or PSU) would make sense too. Luckily for you it's a bit easier now than it was a few years ago since some have started "parting out" 2480s on Ebay, ect. Just keep researching the cause and keep your eyes open for used parts like this Analog board :

Thanks for the info. Great to know that the parts are available. I have a tech friend who may have a look at it for me and try to figure out what may be causing this problem. Thanks again.

Doc:

Just something to check:

Go into Utilities to confirm that phantom is indeed turned on for the suspected inputs.

It's caught me more than once, sadly.

Thanks, did that already,no luck. I only have inputs 2,3 and 6 left. Today I was recording with my rode nt5's and input 3 popped and lost half of it's power. I was using new cables. Changed the cable and it was fine again. Very strange. I guess it will have to get torn apart. The inputs work fine with regular dynamic mics. Just don't get it.
