I'm readying a file to share with collaborators and it's cut with the VS internal metronome sounding at 130bpm...there is a last section of the song that needs to be free form and a bit faster.

Question: would it screw up anything if I were to drop out the counting for the last part. I know I can use tempo controls but what about ending the song without the metronome at all? I'm wondering if I'm missing anything in the theory department ;-)

Mainly, I don't want to mess up the tempo settings or introduce any issues inadvertantly. I think I can just drop out the metronome for the last section...what do you think?

I would just drop the metronome sound.
As you said, you could use the tempo controls - or you could create an intricate tempo map that would automate the metronome.
A tempo map is very powerful - can take some practice to get used to though and in your case, it sounds like you'd rather have a more free feeling.

Thanks Dan! I didn't realise I had double posted this...

What would be the mechanism for dropping out the metronome then? Tempo map? It seems like that's the answer then...I've already got it recorded so all I need to do is automate the metronome dropout...

When I get home I'll line 'er up and give it a try! Thanks! RD

I don't think you can automate the drop out of the metronome. You'd have to manually turn it off, while you're recording the sound.

If you've already recorded the whole song's tempo track by manually adjusting the metronome on the fly - that works...... you could always erase what you don't want to hear...... easier than setting up automation of the track.

and loads easier than creating a tempo map and then recording it (which is what I meant by automating the metronome - (not like automating a channel's parameters).
