I have about 20 zipdiscs from a BR-8 I no longer have. Has anyone ever tried to hook up a zipdisc drive to a 2480 and see if it will understand the files of a BR-8. These are 20 good songs I would like to transfer as separate tracks.

Have you looked at the BR8 conversion app?
https://www.boss.info/global/support/by_...1-b55621709a07/
You can hook up a Zip drive to a PC and convert the individual tracks to wav format and save to PC for mixing, or what not.
I used to use this app with my vs840 and it worked great back in the day.

Hey Wish. Thanks for your response. The site says the new version is updated for windows 2000 and XP. I don't have a computer with anything before windows 7 on it. I don't know if it would work with windows 7 or 10. Thanks for the thought.

It's such a small, unobtrusive app. Easiest way to find out is to just download it, install it and see if it works on your system. You will find that many apps do work on systems not officially recognized.

Thanks uptildawn, I guess the point is moot now. My talented yet impatient wife has worked me into buying a used BR-8 on ebay for 80 bucks. I suppose we will be transfering in realtime with no usb outs. You guys are probably right. I would still need to buy a zipdisc drive though. Well the BR-8 of course has one in it. Only disadvantage is no real way to move information in a fast way. And who knows? Those discs are almost 19 years old now. Hope the oxide is holding up. Thanks for you help guys. Always a pleasure to have someone out there who knows better than me.

I don't know how well the zip drives in the Roland/Boss products have held up, but there is a history of zip drive developing issues that make playing the disks impossible and actually ruin the disk (to my understanding - I've never followed up and tried to play a ruined disk in another zip drive, after having one click on me). It's commonly known as the click of death - this is not intended to scare you, but to inform you.
Should you run into any playing issue whatsoever with your BR-8 zip drive - again, I don't know the reliability history of these drives - and especially if you hear any clicking sounds (even if it eventually reads the disk), be very wary of continuing to use the drive - and especially playing your prized possessions.
It would be a good idea, in fact, to first use either an unused, blank disk, or one that contains data that you don't mind losing, should the drive/disk fail to work properly.
I do hope I'm not being an alarmist here - where the BR-8 unit is concerned. It's only that I have, myself, experience with zip drives and the click of death trouble and (I believe without further testing) that I've lost a couple of zip disks at least.
You can find many references to the phenomenon on youtube, if you care to inform yourself further.

You are not wrong about the click of death.
It is real.

You know, I guess even though I have ordered a used br-8, I would still like to go back to my original question. If I were to hook up a zipdisc drive to the SCSI port of my 2480 as described on page 381 of my owners manual, and place a zipdisc from an old br-8 file in it, would the 2480 recognize the language. - I know - In a perfect world. Right.

I don't believe the br8 data format would be compatible with the 2480. The vs840 had the same format, which is why it worked with that PC app.
You should test it out and confirm it, one way or another.

If you can find a cable that will connect your zip drive to a usb port, just run the VSWE program on it and extract the wav files that way.

Just a follow up. Yes we got our BR 8 from a gentleman on eBay. The drive did not recognize our Zipdiscs. Of course it didn't help that this individual packed it lose in a box surrounded by Styrofoam peanuts to the point that we had to pick some pieces out of the disc drive. But all is well. We returned it and got a refund. If I try anything else it will be to buy a USB zipdisc100 drive and see what can be done with the software on the boss page that allows BR 8 files to be converted to WAV files. Put them on a CD and bring them into the 2480. Will keep posted on new developments. Rob

I downloaded the boss BR-8 convert to WAV software, unzipped it and it looks like it will do fine on windows 10 even though it was last updated for XP. I ordered a zipdisc 100 drive with USB out - off ebay for fifty bucks. It will be here Feb 2nd. Can't wait to see if this works.

Hoo Ray!! Everything worked great. I burned a CD with 9 separate WAV files that I will put on the 2480. Yeah!! Thanks for your input everyone. It got me encouraged enough to try this and it worked.
