I've had this unit for 10 years and its never given me any problems. However, a few days ago I turned it on to get the rest of my projects off of it to sell and notice faint crackling pops all over nearly every everything. I've been going mad trying to fix it. I read all the posts on here from people with the same issues. It's sure bad timing as I'm only selling it because we're in a financial pickle.

I've tried what I can think of. I erased everything and reformatted all three hard drives. I played guitar through it and recorded a bit last night and there were crackles again. It's weird it's not on the actual recording as it's doesn't crackle in the same spots during playback. I don't know if it's the mixer, the motherboard, the hard drives, ect. I unplugged everything from it to rule that out. I even plugged it in to a different outlet to rule out electrical interference. I haven't moved it or changed any settings since it worked flawlessly. It did go about six months without being used though. I just refunded the guy his $555 it went for on Ebay.

Any suggestions? I'm planning to put it up for auction again as defective/for parts. What do you think a fair price is? Thanks.

Since your 2480 has worked well for 10 years (no preamp issue) open it up and clean it before selling for parts. I've known several 2480 users with this issue, and many times cleaning the interior solved the crackling problem.

Edit: Be careful with the cleaning. Although I've had no issues with my 2480, the advice I've been given promotes canned air first. If needed afterwards use a good contact cleaner without residue.

Mine has done this from time to time. Usually when it's just starting up on a cold morning but the crackle and pop always goes away.

That's what I was hoping would happen but it never did. I guess I could turn it on everyday for a few hours for a week or two and see if that helps.

Guys, I still say crack open the console and clean it before giving up. These machines have built up a lot of crud inside them over the years.

Cleaning it out is a good idea.

I would also recommend something like DeOxit and some contact lube for the connectors and cable header pins. Unplug, clean, lube, and carefully plug back in. Use caution not to bend pins or break anything. But, I would avoid the motorized faders, unless you KNOW it will not affect them, and avoid spraying the fader belts and motors. You might call the manufacturer of the products you are considering before risking any $$ damage to faders.

My unit was pristine when I got it, and hardly used. Spent most of it's life from new in a custom hardcase.
Within 9 months of ownership, I noticed crackles from most of Sensitivity Knobs. I used a small shot of electrical connection spray...generic stuff...and worked the knobs back n forth good.
No more crackles.

Since that day, I made sure I covered my 2480 after use, and broke down and bought a custom sized cover for it. You see em on ebay...about $30 Cnd for mine.
