To me, the story behind this track is interesting.

I had played in a band with these 3 other guys in the early-to-mid 90's. They were my friends. Think Huntington/Newport Beach, CA. Shared rehearsal space with Korn at the time. We broke up after Drummer Brian's drug/alcohol issues got to the point of being a deal breaker. So we went our separate ways - Drummer Brian took his personal issues to another band, I moved to Plano, TX to go back to college, Bass Josh got a full ride to Berkeley School Of Music in Boston, and, coincidentally, Singer Dave was job-transferred to the Boston area as well.

So, in 1998 Drummer Brian - who had nothing going on - comes to visit me in beautiful Plano. He doesn't leave, gets a job, and now we're roommates.

In Fall '98 Singer Dave and Bass Josh come to visit us in north Texas for a weekend. We hung out, went and saw some great local live music, and, totally unplanned (I had just acquired my then brand new VS840) - we record a demo of a song that we had been working on at the time that we disbanded years earlier. It was fun. And that was that.

Almost exactly one year later ('99) these jokers came out to visit us again for another weekend. This time - they bring a song that they'd wrote together - it was a composition song-writing school project for Josh - and Dave helped him with adding lyrics and melody over the progression.

So we pull out the Roland VS840 and get to work in the few hours we had. Couldn't do the drums in my apartment - so we rented a space for two hours, sped over there to get there on time, and Brian recorded the drums by just listening to my scratch guitar part played live into his headphones - I'd just learned the song a couple of hours earlier.

Radio Shack quality mics for the drums except for an SM58 which we put on the kick. Four crap mics straight into the VS840 eventually made the stereo drum track.

Went back to my apartment and finished everything else in just a couple of hours. Vocals were done in my closet - SM58 direct to VS840. Josh played my P-Bass direct to the 840 as well.

It didn't sound good (still doesn't). But it was what it was. We got their idea down and had fun doing it. The camaraderie alone was worth it.

So, about a year ago I thought I'd try to clean this turd up a little. EQ'd the drums the best I could - they're just shit to begin with. Ran Dave's vocals through a Warm Audio preamp and added compression on the way back in. Redid all the guitars - they're crunchier than the original guitar tracks - and new lead guitar ideas. So - except for the guitars - the performances are the original crude one's from 1999.

But the song itself (not the recording) grew on me over the years. I wish we could redo it today in a professional setting.

Yeah, I liked that! Good energy. Nice and tasty guitar licks. You would've been ok to have added more guitar \:\) That's the guitar tone I like- sort of ARS Spooky tone.

Not bad again sir!

Yeah, the recording is not spectacular but you polished it pretty well. \:\) It's not bad at all. \:\)

Nice playing too!

BUT!

That may be one of the worst fadeouts in the history of fadeouts. \:p The vocal awkwardly disappears before everything else!

\:p

But really, I'm just being a jerk. I enjoyed that. Fun tune indeed. Yeah, kind of alternativey. Definitely 90's rock. Can't put my finger on it exactly, but it's maybe sort of in that slightly-heavier Gin Blossoms realm...or some other bands that sound like slightly-heavier Gin Blossoms. Or some other 90s bands entirely that I can't think of at the moment. But something like that.

I really, really liked this. I don't think the drums sound so terrible.

Cool song.
