Hi,

I bought this excellent Song-Vault below from Brett LaCroix many years ago, but now my keys are suddenly gone. There are replacement keys available on the net, but I am not sure if they are the right one. Are all these IDE Mobile Rack keys standard size, like one key fits all?

Those were standard keys -- used by many racks -- sure someone must still have them --

I think I used a small screwdriver when my key went missing.

Yep, to me it looks like the only purpose with the lock is to prevent the inner tray from being pulled out by accident. I assume that the HD will work anyway regardless if the indicator lights shows that the inner tray is locked or not. But I have never tried that.

Well, long story short, I finally found the missing keys today.

Each key have 2 numbers, one on each side, 506 and 1102. Even though some few different brands of trays was used with these units according to Brett LaCroix, I guess this info could be of help in case someone are searching for the keys in the future, or if they are gone already.

And btw, the Song-Vault is smarter than I thought. The key kinda works like the ignition in a car. If the Song-Vault and HD is running and the key is then set to unlock, the HD will shutdown while the fan will still continue spinning. And when the key is turned back to locked, the HD will start up again and the green light comes on under the lock. In other words, there is not only a physical connection between the inner tray and the position of the key, but an electronic connection to the HD as well.
