Hi. I recently obtained a second 2480 which will be used as a backup/replacement/synched up for 48 tracks unit alongside my original machine. It came with 1 vs8f2 card. I added a second 2 card, from my original unit which has a 3 card on board. I will not pay $1000 for another vs8f3 card, so I bought two more 2 cards for a fraction of the cost, just so the new unit is loaded with some kind of internal effects.
Anyway, although I suspect what the answer is, my question is this: when two 2480s are synched together, can the effects on one unit be applied to the other unit? I'm guessing no, but Thought I'd ask the experts. Thanks for your time.
Charles

You would have to bring the audio in from the 2nd maching into the 1st machinge via R-BUS and then place fx on the input channels.
The plugins blow away the VS8F-2 card fx, well worth their higher price. Once I got the plugins, all of my 2 cards got removed and placed in a drawer.

Yeah, I figured it couldn't be done without importing or whatever. You're right about the difference in cards, of course. I guess of my original machine dies, I can move the 3 card to the other.
For now, if I link them, I'll use the 2 card machine for secondary tracks or something.
Thanks for the help.

We still use the RBUS ==connected to our Lexi /TC external racks -- never used the cards much ... maybe a guitar effect ---about it.

I mostly use lite reverbs and delays. But I do lean heavily on the 3 cards Universal Audio compressors. Very helpful. But good sources or sounds in should lead to good sounds out. Good amp tones, mic placement, guitar effects, etc.
But it sure is nice to have onboard effects all nicely bundled up in there waiting to go. Hence the popularity of digital recording. I like the relative simplicity, or straight forwardness, of the 2480, versus the impressive overwhelmingness of say, Pro Tools, or whatever. Something like that.

The plugins are magic wands to my ears...T-Racks, UA compressors, Soundtoys (Soundblender) delays, the TC Reverb....they're all super fantastic!
