Hey guys, I think my last post here was over 15 years ago. Back then, I was pretty much on here everyday, especially in the 840 forum.
I had stepped away from music totally. A lot of reasons, but I think 9/11 really did a number on me and took a lot of the fun out of life. So I threw myself into work, dabbled in a bunch of different things to stay distracted, but recently decided to bring the guitar out of mothballs and see if I remembered anything. (That was frustrating, and still is... the timing is there, and I know what I WANT my fingers to do, but they're just too slow and weak still. And man... talk about being sloppy. I never was a fast lead player, but I could at least get to chords cleanly and hold them for more than a second. Ha!)
Anyway, it's getting there.. So about a week or so ago, I went back into my old studio (slash storage room now) and thought about what it would take to get back up to speed on the gear. Then I thought, "Hey if the Planet is still around, maybe reading some old threads would be like a VS speed course." I was shocked to see my account still existed... Thanks for leaving a light on for me!
It's great to see some familiar names... Moose, Xeno, Arthur, Gonz, Clean, Wish, and others. And Flatcat... how you doing Buddy?
Anyway, on the 840 site (boy, that felt like I was walking through Chernobyl... a real ghost town there...) I came across the thread about replacing the Zip drive with flash. What a great idea! The worst part of the Zip was the whining, whirring, ker-chunking of the drive, not to mention the dreaded Drive Busy error and hassle with backups.
So after some parts-ordering and experimentation, the 840 is back, and performing better than ever. (Clem not so much yet). I'll post those 840 modification results on the 840 Flash thread in that forum in case it helps others.
So... I just wanted to shout out a big hello to my old friends here and introduce myself to the young bucks. I won't be as active as I used to be on the site (I was spending WAY too much time here back in the day), but I'll be around.
So the prodigal son has returned. Someone pass me a fatted calf burger.
Hanging out at Alumni Hall, Clem

Clem! Hey man it's really good to see you here again. Don't be such a stranger, eh?
And remind me… is your name from Don't Crush That Dwarf?

Thanks, it's great (and weird) to be back.
And no, regarding the name. Clem is just an old nickname that someone gave me during a summer job at a steel mill that sort of stuck. Everyone who worked there had a nickname. Man, I can picture all those guys still... Wild Bill, Sniper, Pierre, Jesus-Freak, Pops, Too-Tall, and Peckerhead. So, yeah... I'll take Clem over Peckerhead any day.
With blisters on me fingers, Clem

Hey pbrowne, I do remember that name. You know, with MIDI instruments that are slaved to the VS-840, and 8 tracks for gtrs and vox, that machine really IS all that I need for now. Heck, having 16 tracks would just double the number of takes I need to do over.
Dang it, Falcon. I could have won a new car? Is it too late to delete my post? I won't tell anyone.
What are you saying, Marty? I've got to frickin' audition now?! Let me at least build my callouses back up. If you must hear something, I'm on Comp III (you can find it in most antique stores).
Resting on my laurels and too tired to get up, Clem

Well, well, well! How nice to see you again after all this time!
Some things have changed around here, some things are the same. I guess it's the nature of things.
I am so, so pleased that you saw the light was still on.

Yeah, what's up with THAT, Flatcat? Or should I say, Mr. Planet? I'm glad I was nice to you way back when. (I was nice to you, I hope.)
Either way, it was lucky for me you left the door unlocked. I'll be the perfect guest.
Clem Hey, we're out of beer again. What kind of circus are you running here?

Hey, we're out of beer again
I'm having a Guiness and Canadian version of a Black and Tan, to celebrate our two eldest's convocations. So drop by if you're thirsty and in the neighbourhood. (notice the extra "u")
