Two songs, first time we'd played them all the way through, shitty recording and yet...you can tell that in the end we will kill on these numbers.

This one is called Everybody's Party, a Metheny/Scofield composition:

I love the sound I am trying out for the solo, with a slight portamento glide...

And this is a new arrangement of Hope, a ballad I wrote for a dying friend a couple of years ago, but now done as a bolero. The percussion gets too busy at times, but we're all trying to learn the song and figure out our parts at the same time...I also like the Xavier Cugat vibe of this one, helped by the piano layered over a vibes sound.

One thing I really like about these recordings is how vocal the guys are--you will hear little shouts of appreciation for a cool passage now and then, very passionate.

It's ironic but I actually broke the band up earlier that very morning because my partner and main percussionist tried to cancel the rehearsal at the last minute. He's done the same thing with every single rehearsal in 2019, and it's driving us all nuts. I told everyone last time that if it happened again I was quitting the band. So I did--there was a flurry of instant messages that followed and he rearranged his schedule. We went into rehearsal and learned these two songs plus one other and booked a new gig on the 13th of July.

Our new CD will be in my hands within a couple of weeks, and our CD release parties will be the 13th in San Miguel de Allende, then the 19th at JAZZATLÁN in Puebla and the 20th at JAZZATLÁN in Mexico City--two fabulous clubs run by the same guy.

In CDMX, we will have some special guest stars sitting in, including singer Iraida Noriega (who is on the new album) and guitarist JuanJo Gomez who is a monster player.

I like the "shitty" recording fidelity. Gives it a nice vibe.

"I like the "shitty" recording fidelity."

Me too, I have to admit. Why don't we call this type of recording "hi-infidelity"?

Looks like they're still in operation.

Hmm. Good find.

I don’t get out much these days. And I especially try to avoid cover bands. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I’d just prefer to do something else. Or find an original act I can be equally dissatisfied with. <— ended a sentence with a preposition. Oops.

Anyone else want to take a listen? By tomorrow, it will be a moot point as my new CD is hitting (pre-release, download only).

Thanks,

Doug
