I've researched the "analog vs digital" debate and concluded that most hybrid strategies are counter productive and you end up with the worst of both. C.L.A.S.P. (Closed Loop Analog Signal Processor) seems like a Rube Goldberg invention.

I am recording with an analog Yamaha mixer on the front end. (It's not as quiet as my Mackie, but it has sweep-able mids.) Then into the VS-890.

The other day I tried reamping with a VS-890 for the first time. It worked! But obviously the digital signal is being converted into analog , amped and then recorded digitally.

So perhaps some folks here have some thoughts on reamping effectively and signal conversion.

Are there times when you have needed to go from digital to analog (and back) and what is the most effective way of doing so?

Mature software mixers like those in the big three (Cubase/Logic/Protools) offer time compensated hardware inserts. FWIW, Cubase is the tightest of the three, IME.

That said....I have no interest in going back to that. I was hybrid before they coined the term.

I've had good experiences reamping drums...I just use the studio monitors. Mix my drum tracks to a stereo pair, play them out of the monitors and re-record using obviously a mic on each monitor and then take my original drum stem and bounce that AND the new tracks to a stereo pair.
Fattens up the drums nicely.

BTW, hello Popmann! Good to see you here!

Hello ,
I'm réamping all the time .. I'm coming out of the vs 2480 or v700 i/o to go in hardware (channel strip, or analog console, or re vs 2480), I'm shaping the sound and I'm re-recording in the audio card via pc. it works very well ..
