I'm working on creating my first CD, I know that I need to use track import, and then the track edits to get all of my 2 track songs into the 2 tracks on my "CD project" song. I have all of my songs bounced and mastered on tracks 17/18 v track 16 like the manual says, but I just can't seem to get them all into the same project. How do you do it? When i go to import tracks 17/18 v track-16 from my second song it replaces the first. Please help I know I'm just missing something simple. Can someone please run me through the process? Thanks in advance!

Please tell us which VS model you are using and which manual you are referencing (pdf, hard copy). It will help us better to guide you through a process.

It's been such a long time since I've personally used the VS to create a CD, I'm afraid I don't remember the whole process and would need to follow the manual, myself. I noticed that the 1880 manual doesn't fully explain the process of importing multiple songs to a master cd project - at least not in the pages they reference to create a cd...... one of the downfalls of the manuals, I'm afraid.

One way you can work around the issue you seem to be having, might be to import each new stereo track song pair onto different destination tracks - say song 1 onto ch 17/18, v-1 - then song 2 onto ch 17/18, v-2 - and so on, until all the songs are imported. Then use the track edit function multiple times to move and place each song in your desired "master" virtual track and in the correct order and spacing. Be sure to use/place your cd track markers as you go to save a bit of time.
Follow the instructions on placing the markers and if the manual doesn't say so, put each song about 1/2 second after each marker. This allows cd players a moment to get the song going, when selected for playback without the chance of cutting off the very start of the song.

Sorry to not have the answers you asked for, but hopefully these suggestions will be helpful to you anyway.

Thank you for such a quick response! i’m using the 1824CD and i’ve been using the pdf version of the manual as well as the video manual of the 1680 from roland on youtube that came out in 1998. I will try to line them all up using different v tracks, i didn’t know that was possible. thank you for the answer and the help!

Another thought occurred to me that you might check out...
See if it's possible that each new imported track is pushing the previous track down the timeline and out of sight, rather than being overwritten. Use the Shift/FF buttons to see where the project end point is. That's one way of many to discover if something has been pushed down there.

Hey so an issue I had when I tried to import all of my songs onto different v tracks of the same song project was that when I move my 17/18 vtrack-16 2 channel mastered tracks over to the new project 17/18 vtrack-1 I could not even pull up 17/18 v track one in the mixer. I may be over complicating this work around but I have no idea how to get them all on different v tracks into the song and then onto the same v track for my 12 song cd.

First thing you should maybe do is to download the 1824cd owners manual (and any others it might be associated with) and refer to it, rather than the 1680 manuals. Even if essentially the same in operation, there will be enough differences to make it even more confusing when trying to follow the few examples of operations given.

First thing I always check in the VS manuals is an Index to find keywords that may get me directly to, or closest to the pages I need to read. In this case, I would suggest looking up V-Tracks and reading every reference you find to them and their uses.

If you still can't get a v-track to change after following the straightforward instructions you should find (especially in the case of master tracks), then it's possible that you are in some special mode - the mastering room, cd write mode, or whatever other special modes may be at play. You might check that your machine is in the correct play mode as well..... I don't know the 1824, but the VS machines I have used have an F-key associated with playback status. It should normally be in the status that has the abbreviation REC and definitely not PLAY...... as counter-intuitive as that may sound. I don't know whether or not that prevents you from switching v-tracks, but it will definitely lock you into only hearing certain tracks...... It's especially prone to mistaken identity after having bounced tracks for submixing and mastering. You might check it anyway.
