Hi forum
After just having fixed an SCSI issue (incompatible drive) I would now like to update my 1680 to the latest (recommended) OS, 2.024. I had not used it for a long time and would like to restart recording the old way ;-)
I was able to download the 2 versions available at Roland (the 1-file version and the mid files). Both fail to install:
- 1-file version (VS1680.PRG) - I burned it onto a RW CD on a Win 10 PC and started the VS 1680. According to the manual the 1680 is supposed to recognize the update file in the ZIP drive (I am using a CD drive though), but in my case is does not. The device boots as normal, loads the first song and is ready to play/record. The update file is not seem to be recognized. I also cannot load the file as song or so.
- mid files. I was loading the first mid file into cubase 10/mid track, it is recognized as a sys ex file. I start the VS with pressing the two "7" buttons. The VS enters in update mode, after confirming with "yes" the device is awaiting data as per text book. I then start playing the midi file on cubase and data arrives on the VS. However when entering the "2nd portion" it stops saying "wrong mid format". I tried different speeds (120 bpm and 80 bpm) without effect, same error.
I was not able to find the little tool from Roland allowing to update without sequencer, however I do not know if this would even work on a Win 10 machine... (I also have a Mac Book Pro on Mojawe), however cannot seem to download that file, too.). I also owe a NI Maschine but have never used that with midi...
Any idea what I may try next?
Thank you
