Exactly why I never left the VS system --been tempted so many times ... AND now they drop the StudioLive CS18AI --which resembled the ROland closest
Every time I get caught in a computer induced audio spider web and feel my blood pressure rising, I look over at my 2480 on the floor and say to myself, "you made everything sooo easy...maybe we should..." Happens...all...the...time.
I'll even gaze longingly at a Tascam DP-32 in a Guitar Center catalog if I'm feeling especially vexed at that particular moment. But then I press on, and I'm not so sure I really know the reason why C Jo Go. Hah!

Still like the idea of a smaller footprint --- our desk won't accept a full 32c --- precut for the VS 2480 years ago.
Still not sure how one mixes 32 channel back through a StudioLive 24 ?
The StudioLive CS18AI has the feature to switch between the 64 channels

So you can record everything self contained within the StudioLive CS18AI itself then? The 2480 is discontinued too, but that doesn't stop people from using it. Because if that's the case, what would the harm be if you took it out for a spin. You could probably get one used for $600 now.

Just so easy not to have to rethink the whole world of engineering -- the VS is pretty much like the machines I have sat at > for so many years -- more analog feeling than one might think.
Since I never do much of the diligent digital editing of today's endless configurations --- only using about 50% of the ROLAND software >> to produce all of our clients projects .
We do have a full Pro Tools on board our PC -- available for any project that someone might have to dive into..
Still never received a "clear" answer from PRESONUS = how to mix 32 channels back through their 24 channel Series III ?? ....StudioLive-32SC is maybe the answer

There you go. I think you have the perfect setup, and it works very well for you and your clients.
I have most of my material written for the next one, so if I hit any serious or prolonged technical snags, I don't think I'd think twice about bringing the Roland war horse back into service.

Such a quick -- straight ahead -- long~time friend .. 48 channels all automated -> - walk-in the studio = templates all preset .. whisk through the project at hand ..

Quick off topic question. I have to press down and hold about 1/3 of the buttons on my 2480 for about a half second to get them to light up. Anybody have a quick fix for that?

Is there a button on the board >> to switch from the obvious 24 channels present -- to the remaining 8 channels \ ala the StudioLive CS18AI /
Like the VS 2480 has 48 >> just toggle between ..
We mix 16 at a time > with the ROLAND --

I had the presonus 32 for over a year..... not the same.... I still use the 2480 to rough out everything.... works like a tape machine and a mixer.... (old schooL), and keeps all the technology out of the way....

Hey > BEAR M << we almost jumped ship ~ a few times -- just seem to have that VS ingrained into my studio/ style for tracking the clients.
Like that tape machine feel & mixer of the ROLAND system .. And you don't have to go any further = with the tech = if not needed . ( as you stated )
Mixdown finally to a PC ( REAPER )
The new VIRDIS software really helps with storage - & safety backups ..

Hey C Jo Go..... I had the whole 32 StudioLive setup with the software and just couldn't feel it.... went back to the FF Clarett and Cubase.... I'm much calmer now... I use the vs2480 for everything outside the studio... (my piano is upstairs)…. and can just about record anything anywhere... no computer, no latency, no wasting time.. then I just lock the machine up to the computer and transfer tracks.... the presonus came close with their capture software (for live show stuff), but there's nothing like the VS for immediacy in the moment, but hey, what do I know? If someone finally makes a machine better than the 2480, I'll try it.... ha ha!

We are still mixing everything in the 2480. Locked to 3 Kurzweil keys and sequencers ...we auto mix 48 channels == to a stereo track in Reaper . R Tracking to a external HD via VirDis

If I was officially retired from the engineering /producing world --- I think I would give another format a try > but the down time ~~ would completely remove me , from my client's works.

Yes~~ tried and true ~!!
If I could only have a "hands on" of the PRESONUS ..Just to see what I would be missing ......
The one feature I use a lot -- on the fly punches ..No mouse or screen with a WAV to implement ..
The REC button looked to be a precarious spot ~~ on the Presonus... We just rest our palm on the bottom of the Roland machine .. instant I/O punches
and the LOC buttons --- never really have to leave the surface of the 2480
