Hello!

I have a question about printing loop effects such as reverb or delay. I know how to print an insert effect, but can't seem to figure out how to print a loop effect. I have an already recorded vocal part that I need to add some extra delay at the end of a word, but my effects processors need to be freed up first, which is why I need to print this delay loop effect.

What's the easiest way to do this?

Also, I should mention that I don't have any free faders to put the effect level onto as I'm using all 24 tracks up already. I have the delay level turned up to where I want it on the Aux 1, and just want to somehow print that to a free virtual track.

Thanks for any help!

You'll need to record the track(s) to another track(s) making sure the aux/effect is routed.

If your out of tracks use a V track(s), and record to it. You'll then at some point need to do bouncing to probably a stereo track to make more room for the V track with the effect.

Keep in mind when you do your first bounce/record of the loop effects, you will want to record to a stereo pair layer, if the effect(s) is(are) meant to be stereo - which is the case most of the time.

And to highlight what powermac has said - be sure to route the aux/effect return to the bounce track(s) destination (same as the dry track destination).

Thanks powermac and uptildawn!

I think I successfully printed a delay effect following your advice here. But I noticed that the new track with the delay effect printed onto it sounds very mono, whereas the original track that had the same delay effect on the Aux 3 Post sounded nice and full with stereo imaging even though it was just on one track.

So if I understand correctly, I'll have to bounce the Aux 3 (where I have this delay on) and my mono recorded track to a new "stereo" track in order to hear the delay effect properly recorded?

Sorry if I sound confused, I guess I am just a bit!

That would be the ticket - get things panned the way you expect to put them in your mix, too, before the bounce. You'll also want to mute the original track, or solo the new stereo track, when you play back and check your bounce, so you can be sure what you hear is the actual bounced recording.

Uptildawn is correct. If you want the full effect you'll need to do a stereo track bounce. Also, and as an addition to Uptildawn's comment, it's a good idea to either solo the tracks being bounced (before bouncing) or mute all the other tracks in the project. I say that because I've had times that other tracks have had a slight bleed into the stereo track.

That's especially true if you happen to have other tracks set with the same reverb effect as the one you are bouncing.... Got to mute those other tracks during the bounce. Solo your reverb before the bounce to check that only your bounce track is going through it, if you're not sure.

Thanks guys for the helpful input!

I have one other simple question about the VS8F-3 effects. I'm using the preset "male vocal" just so I can use the de-esser and the eq on that effect, but is there a way to link the left and right channels of that effect so I don't always have to switch between left and right to adjust the parameters?

I know on the Massenburg EQ plug in, I can link the left and right channels while editing that EQ effect so I don't have to constantly switch between L & R. Can I do the same with the VS8F-3 effects?

Although I don't have any 3 cards, you should be good with writing both mono tracks to a stereo track. Then manipulating the linked track. However, both tracks being bounced should be very similar since your going to EQ/de-ess.

As a caveat. Have you tried de-essing using the EQ with a tight Q? Many times it works quite well. I've used the technique for years and almost never use a de-esser.

Hi powermac,

Yeah what you suggested of de-essing with a narrow Q at the right frequency definitely does do the job as well.

As for linking the left and right channels on the effects card, I realize now that I didn't explain correctly. My latest problem is trying to link the left and right "parameters" on the vs8f-3 card effect, and not linking the actual recording tracks.

Basically, when I'm adjusting the parameters on the EQ plug in, the plug in effect has separate adjustments for both left and right, and you have to keep switching between left and right to adjust the levels so they match. So I was hoping to find a way to link the left and right on the effect card plug in to make adjusting the parameters quicker.

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to do that without linking the tracks. I wanted to do the same thing on a song that had 75 tracks, and using nothing but loop effects. Tried every which way and found it wasn't possible.
