My cat knocked my 880 Ex over and it fell, bending the master volume slider sideways. I think it snapped off from whatever internal mechanism it would have been attached to. After removing the 60 million screws it takes to get inside the housing, I realized that the metal plate that would give me access to the slider mechanisms seems to be permanently attached. I have spare parts, but I can't even get deep enough inside to figure out what to replace!

If there's a way to adjust the master level without using the slider, I think I'd just do that, as much of a pain that might be.

Anyone have any ideas?

I have lots of ideas. Not sure if all of them are relevant, so I'm not going to volunteer them all. Could you post a picture?

Do you have a service manual? It's fairly easy to find online. Chances are, you'll have to replace the fader.

I'd gladly post a picture, but I don't know that it would tell you anything. The master volume slider looks perfectly functional, it's just that it has broken off internally. I found a service manual, but I'm not sure what part I should be looking to replace. Here's how far I was able to get inside: https://www.dropbox.com/s/mgxhiz6xx9lyqaj/20200217_102402.jpg?dl=0

Obviously, i need to get on the other side of the main circuit board, but it's stuck somehow.

Well, this may surprise you, but a fader is actually a fairly complicated device. So it'd be interesting to see in which way it is actually broken. But, I digress.

How about the fader? As I said before, faders are (internally) fairly complicated. But to the end user, they are best considered a single part.

For one thing, there appears to be a lot of stuff still attached to that main board.

Those faders are not difficult to replace. The biggest issue is tracking all the screws.

IIRC Mouser or Digi-Key had pin-idnetical replacements for ~$3USD. I swapped three in an 880 a few years ago.

Stargear,

As Dkfackler mentioned, .. it is doable, to fix .. Dkfackler talked me through the process, a few years back, on a 890, that I received with a broken/worn out Master & Track 1 sliders.

If I remember correctly, .. the very top row of switches, (the Input volumes) are actually holding the last circuit board, from separating from the recorder's cabinet, in the inside. So, by pulling them off (from the top side) .. you may then find that you can separate that circuit board, as you are trying to do.

As long as you're at it .. are any of the other sliders really worn? I couldn't believe the difference in wear, from the 1st track's slider, to the rest of them. It must have been used, continuously.

You can do that. Wait till I remember how to access the master volume... Wasn't it by pressing Shift + Fader/Edit and then scrolling through whatever shows up until you're there?
