This is an original that was written by the bass player lead singer in front. We recorded the stems through a Yamaha tf5 that I captured on a laptop. When I got to the mixing I found some buffer under-run distortions. Fortunately we took a second take right then of that song, and even though those distortions existed in the second take they did not overlap with the First Take. So I was able to somewhat painstakingly but amazingly easily pull track by track each piece from take 2 over the distortions in take one.

A lot of work indeed. Nice job on the audio mix, and seamless editing fixes. Horns sound nice, poppin' snare, bass nice. vocal is cherry toppin' the mix

Bravo.

We're going to crowd fund you a new Camcorder and a bubble level for it

Very nice! Great dynamics! It was a pleasant surprise to hear a ballad.

I really like this. However in terms of the mix, at least on the system where I was listening, the keyboard was too loud and just got louder and the horns were too soft from beginning to end. I would reverse the ratio. I also got a little uncomfortable that there was literally nothing for the woman to do for the entire song except sing a few lines towards the end, or so it seems. While the bass player Did every line, every holler, every little vocal twist and turn. I would’ve like to have seen some back-and-forth.

Thanks all.

The furniture is a desk. The bass player is entering some contest with the theme of "tiny desk".

I actually wasnt done with the mix, but he just ran with it. The changes I was gonna make was to reduce the b3 toward the end, bring the snare hits down (but leave up the sidestick), and push out a hair more overall volume.

In any case, its done and out

Oh...more about the mix...

We actually recorded an EP. ONn it is this song, studio recorded, and mastered. So I used that as a reference in harbal.
I mixed and summed in-the-box using studio-one. Usually I woukd run several stems out to my soundcraft, drums, guitar, keys, horns ,vocals all worked over in analog, then summed back to digital. No this time. Lately I been monitoring a stereo feed thru my Presonus, and all the processing is in the DAW....right down to select all tracks, click "mix down selection".
Its tricky, it doesnt seem to exact my monitor mix, rather the results are some tracks are too down, some too up....so I adjust the faders and re-do. Eventually it comes out...
Once I got the mix as close as I could, I put the 2-track in Harbal and "shaped it" to match the EP version which I load as teference. Cool app.

I enjoy production with nifty shit.

Haven't even heard of Harbal, sounds pretty cool. Could you give me some insight on it?
