Hello everyone . little question . is it possible to connect the optical 2480 to the adat of another device? even though instead of having 8 tracks available there would only be 2. thank you .

Although the physical connectors are the same, it would not be possible.

spdif can be transmitted over coaxial/rca or optical/toslink connectors, depending on the product - read the specs of your "other device" to find out whether spdif is available and over which connector path (or both like the 2480). Typically, spdif is a 2-ch I/O over coax/rca. Typically, optical/toslink is adat, with many exceptions (like the 2480, which offers spdif over optical, but not adat).

If your other device is adat only over optical, then it is incompatible with the spdif/optical of the 2480. If your other device offers spdif over optical, then it would be compatible with the 2480 optical. If your other device offers spdif over coaxial/rca, then it is compatible with the 2480 coaxial/rca.

It may or may not be possible to use both coaxial and optical spdif at the same time - I don't know for sure about the 2480, since the only time I ever tried using both was with a 1680 and I was unsuccessful. So, if you have more than two digital devices to consider, make sure all of your connection choices will work with each other - also make sure you achieve sync AND lock between digital connections, or you will have problems even if it appears to be okay initially.

According to an SOS article on the vs700r, it has the following digital outputs -
VS700R - digital output 1 (AES/EBU and S/PDIF coaxial); digital out 2 (ADAT optical); MIDI In/Out; BNC word-clock In/Out. Sample rates: 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96 and 192kHz. I don't know if you can use both coaxial and optical outputs at the same time. I also don't know if you can use aes/ebu and spdif simultaneously. It does not appear to offer spdif I/O over the optical path (toslink) - only aes/ebu - XLR - or coaxial - RCA.

Check out this very short article on roland's website on how to make the vs-2480 digital conncection - https://rolandus.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/ar...ial-or-Optical-

I assume that if it's only those two machines connected digitally, then sync/lock will be achieved when the spdif input/output settings are made correctly. The sample rates will have to match, for one thing.

It's been awhile since I owned my 2480 but I can say that yes, you can use the coax and optical inputs at the same time. Not only that, I had two vx5080's hooked up via r-bus to both r-bus inputs and I got everything to eventually sync. I cant remember how I did it, but I do remember the 2480 was 'watching' the r bus connections...they were following the 2480 by way of midi. The optical and coax I was able to get them either lock...man it's been so long. I even had word clock hooked up but I'm not sure if I had to use that.
But I do know that I have one device that was coax and one that was optical and I got everything to play nice with each other

I use a old Alesis AI-1 Digital convertor to go from ADAT to SPIDF (or other way) all the time, including from the VS.
End up with exactly what you suspected a 2-channel digital signal.

Its a very handy piece of inexpensive gear for these digital signal converisons.
Also useful to go from toslink to spif (or other way) if you need to.

S/P-DIF and TOSLINK share the same transmission format (in that regard, TOSLINK is simply based on S/P-DIF), but a different transmission medium; electrical (typically over RCA/coax) vs. optical.

No. TOSLINK has nothing to do with ADAT, except that they are both optical digital audio transmission standards, that happen to specify the same connector type, namely JIS F05.

I was speaking in regard to the connectors commonly used for the transmission and the confusion that results in trying to visually identify which format is available on the device in question... not the transmission format.

I tested everything and I saw what worked or not .. but anyway, I had to switch to win10 and suddenly the optics and the s / pdif no longer works with the Vfire .. and in addition my two V studi 700 are good for going in the trash. because no drivers for Win10..I am very disappointed. thanks anyway for your answers.
