So if you have a VS8F-3 installed and say you find a plug-in on eBay that you don't have how does the system you're installing it in "know" the CD installer has been used to install on another card since one installer CD is read only?

I just don't want to buy something to find out I've bought an expensive coaster.

So here's the answer I was looking for .
"The plug-in authorization process links plug-ins permanently with the VS8F3 card Also called the "Key Card". The installation CD actually seems to be an unfinalised CD-R, and the identity of the Key Card is burned to this during the authorization process. After installation, the resulting CD-ROM will only install plug-ins which can be used with that specific VS8F3 Key Card.

Now if someone can make a copies of unfinalized install CD's well..........that would be a different story.

I am sort of in the same boat right now..

I have the VS2000CD with the original 40GB HD in it.. Luckily there is very little use on the device since not long after I got this I was gifted Sonar X3 Producer and that was my main system for a while. Without getting into a rat-hole, I was planning on starting to use the VS again, I have the VS8F-2 card and a single VS8F-3 (would be nice to find another but I need both kidneys..). After some research up here, If I replace the HD with an SSD it sounds like I need to reinstall software for the expansion cards.. luckily I *should* be okay, but I wouldn't mind finding some additional software and its really hard to find... not to mention if its already been used (Appreciate Technomania's post there... probably saved my backside).

Love to find out the best place to get software.
