The Social Distancing for the most part has been easy for me. People tend to avoid me anyway. So food shopping is allowed and here is what I have learned here. Don't shop during "Senior Hours", it just crams more sickly looking people into a smaller time frame, and now I know where all the masks have gone. Avoid the big supermarkets and shop smaller ones, way less people.

here in colorado our stores have a pickup process that works great. you build your shopping list online, schedule a time - show up, call a number, identify yourself, open the trunk of your car and they bring out your groceries.

i did it last week and it took 5 minutes.

I can explain the Toliet paper....well--I can't explain the rationale of WHY....I'm just saying, as the guy who did our "normal monthly big trip" groceries a few weeks ago, as this was just starting to be talked about--epople were standing in lines with carts with in some cases what HAD to be 300 rolls of TP.

You'd think this was a pandemic of dysentery.

So, I went out before all the lockdowns and made sure we had normal groceries "plus" a bunch of dried beans and rice in case we got locked in for a REALLY long time.

Since then, we've ordered from InstaCart....and had a two person disinfection routine as it went piece by piece from the porch to the kitchen.

I REALLY don't love this. I don't mean the panned back "this", which is obvi--I mean the grocery delivery thing....but Ms Pop is adamant that I don't leave. Seems like she's spending hours on the computer arranging them....they show up days later.....and we're guaranteeing TWO more people touch all our food than if we'd go get it. I don't think it's rational--but, she has always wanted this. She hates grocery shopping (thus see above with me doing it)....and now she just has an excuse to "cancel" it.....

Mrs. Moose and I just got back from the grocery store. We checked on the "busy times" on Google maps, and found a time that was not really busy at all.

We wore masks with "Not sick! Just safe." printed on them. It made a few people smile.

We are normally pretty well stocked. But we had to resort to cheap paper towels for about a week because these shenanigans and shutdowns caught us at a low inventory point for paper products. But now we are plenty stocked again. Btw, cheap paper towels are useless.

Food wise, I’m the grocery getter (wife usually handles Costco...you know the big heavy stuff \:\) ), and I would go bonkers not being able to pick my own produce and meats. I’ve been once or twice since the shutdown. Actually hasn’t been too crazy but I do try to go at off peak times. We usually have a weeks worth cornucopia of fruits and vegetables at all times, so just burning through and restocking that as usual.

I have been doing more time intensive cooking though.

Home made pizzas last week (not particularly time intensive actually, just lots of steps and ingredients...dough, sauce, toppings)

Home made pierogi (stuffed with kraut and mushroom) this past week. Ended up making about 65 of em. That was two dough batches worth. Had no idea what to expect in terms of proportion and yield. Never made em before!

They are currently chilling out in the freezer. We shall be taste testing them soon!

Bunny and I still go once a week. Takes a lot less time with 2 of us. Bunny is particular about produce, so unless they make us order on line, not gonna happen. We keep a very far distance from anyone else.

Mixture of Amazon // local grocery ( miss the late night hours ) //

Costco maybe every 6 months

Our two main restaurants > just down the street -- shorter hours but, same great menus - so still a once a week venture... we just walk down the hill >>> sit outside and dine on the colorful tables/chairs.

Haven’t been in 2 weeks. Will need to go soon and I am being quite cautious when that happens. I am in the riskier group with my age and medical history.

Costco, yesterday during the geezers hour. Got almost everything on the list. Almost $300. Wake up call for me. I don't usually shop for groceries.

I go to the grocery store all the time. I still go in to work two days a week.

There are four grocery stores less than 1.5 miles from my house. Giant, Safeway, Bestway(latin and caribbean goods), Trader Joes.

I go to Safeway at 7AM and usually see the workers stocking the shelves. On average I notice there are about 10 - 15 people in there with me. I don't need toilet paper or paper towels as I bought in bulk just before the health moment we are in.

Let's hope food workers and shelf stockers don't start to get sick.

Cheers,
Ian

The too busy market I where i was shopping just changed their procedure. They now limit to a certain amount of customers in the market at onetime. Not sure where you wait though to get in, a long line outside?

HEB is our local market giant. They put 'foot stickers' 6 feet apart on the sidewalk outside. I put on a mask and went at 11 am the other day when there was no line. They have also added plexiglass shields between customers and cashiers. They have a single line for checkout where a monitor keeps you separated from other customers and they tell you which register to go to. They've adjusted their hours from 6am-1am, to 8am-8pm to have more time to sanitize and stock. They also closed down all but 1 entrance and there is an employee there screening and offering sanitizing wipes when you enter so you can wipe down the handles on your cart. They also ration - signs on the shelves indicate items that you can only buy in limited quantities.

They also offer curbside pickup, where they brihg your online order out to your car and drop it in the trunk - very minimal contact. Or, you can order for home delivery.

I've tried curbside - it works pretty well, but you get about 90% to 95% of what you ordered online (depending on availability).

HEB is very customer oriented and they've adjusted quickly to this brave new world.

To ensure social distancing at the supermarket, I wear a name tag (fake name of course - I call myself Robert Flynn) and carry a clipboard that says "credit card applications".

My wife was very proactive and started stocking the shelves and pantry little by little three weeks before grocery shopping became all the rage so we have not had to shop in almost 3 weeks. However, that being said, we now need milk and some stuff that just doesn't keep like produce and bread. We froze some bread but it is so bulky that we ran out of freezer space. We are going to do an Instacart order for that stuff this weekend. Our supply of alcohol is getting low and Instacart does not deliver booze......so I am going to have to risk it and head out to stock up on that......or stop drinking......

Welp. The fridge has spoken and I must venture out today.

I will be sure to pick up some dead grapes, V8, and used toilet paper. PM me if anyone needs used TP. Mine is 20% cheaper than Andy’s and contains the SAME AMOUNT OF CORN NIBBLETS as his does.

He’s fleecing you guys!

BRB!
