Im so excited about this VS2480, bought at an online estate auction with a massive recording studio in the basement. It was a mere $200. There is an entire album on it recorded by the Swon Brothers, I swear it is likely that is the only project it was ever used on. Pristine buttons and overall condition. It has 2 effect cards installed. Can anyone tell me how to see if they are VS8F-2 or 3 without opening it up? Thanks to all that maintain this amazing forum.

Now for the training ...

I see this question was posted before and I read all responses. Now my question: is there a listing of the effects for the -3 effects card anywhere?

The effects are arranged in clusters loosely related--beginning with echoes and reverbs, flangers, mic simulators, distortion, and eq settings, the same way they used to be on the 1680. It makes it easier to navigate within one "cluster". If you're familiar with the 1680, you shouldn't have any problems here.

A list with the names would not be as helpful as moving from one effect to the next and hearing the differences yourself

You can discover a whole lot all on your own in 2 ways -
1- go to rolandus.com and find the preset patch list for the 3-card, as well as the 2-card owners manual - you can check the list of 2-card presets in your 1680 appendices, too.

2- Turn on the 2480, look up the effects list on the machine and compare the preset patches and numbers against those in the printed lists you have in those manual.

Many thanks for direction. I know one of them is a VS8F-2 card, but am unsure of the other. I did find a demo file of the VS8F-3 in one of the drives. get the demo with the -3 card when you install.

I have 2 VS8F-2's in my 1680 I'll move over after I learn the 2480. It's a bit different as we know.

Didn't find anything on Roland's site, butI found a manual for the VS8F-3 with presets here:
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/315090/Roland-Vs8f-3.html?page=30#manual

Welcome to the "2480" moon!
My 2480 is still working well after 12 years! (Full disclosure: it is only lightly used - wish I spent more time on it.)
I never had a 1680, but I suspect you will feel right at home in no time.
Best wishes!

If you go to the CD-RW Mastering Tab on the top of your VGA screen
(with the home screen displayed) click on the tab and in the drop down menu scroll down to the Plug-IN install option the screen will list your effects in A,B,C and D slots and tell you wether they are VS8F-2 or -3 cards.
I hope that helps.

Or , click on "EFFECT" on the top of your VGA screen ant then choose "EFFECT VIEW".
Pop up screen will show if you got a "3-Card" installed in slot A and also if there is any
plug ins active in that project that is open. If not, text message is "NO PLUG IN" as the
plug ins are located on the HD and loaded to the "3-Card" when needed .
If there is any "2-Cards" the "EFFECT VIEW" will show what effect is active on each of
the cards , for example : Reverb , Delay , and their Program Number : P000 and P003.
Clicking in respective FXs window opens it up to edit or to choose another by pressing "PATCH" ( lower left )
Doing the latter in the "3-Card" window will open "PLUG-IN" window and there
you see witch plug-in is selected ( if any ) or text "No PLUG-IN selected".
Press "PlugIn" lower left and plug-in list will pop up.
If no plug-ins shows up you have no plug-ins on your HD

I hope I explained this in an understandable way ......

Cheers !

Dianna, I just wanted to say that I didn't have an opportunity to say...how much you really SUCK for finding the Swon Brothers VS-2480CD for a piddily $200. I mean, THAT's just a massive, wind-up slap in the face. \:D
You HAVE to be one of the luckiest women on the face of the planet to have found this DAW in the first place.

Sincere Congratulations for your find at the estate sale.

If you have some issues, especially with those faders, feel free to contact me via a PM here on The Planet, and I'll see what I can do to assist.

There's a plethora of knowledge around here, but you'll need to do a correct search to find certain things in order to get the right answers.

OS Version 2.504 should be more than adequate for nearly everyone, and it's available on CD-R. I have two copies sitting right next to me that I burned for a couple of people that never returned to this forum with their address...Want one?

Send me a PM (by clicking on my name on the left side of the column, and you'll see the 'send a personal message', then just fill out the message with your shipping address and I'll put it in the mail this week with the update instructions for you.

Regards,

. . FalconEddy
