Cracking RDAC was a monumental achievement Randy and it breathed new life into the VS platform. I remember the angst in the VS community as Roland refused to provide RDAC to wav conversion software allowing more PC integration for editing in DAWs. Thank you for your selfless generosity in sharing the code with us Randy. It was one hell of a welcome gift to so many.

Just to be clear, will converting VS series tracks to WAV make it importable into Pro Tools 11 or 12 for further processing?
Also, can Pro Tools files be converted back into the VS the same way?
Thanks to all.

Converting vs tracks to wav format produces the standardized audio file format readable by virtually any computer media player/editor and certainly pro tools is one of them. Wav files can also be read by pc or mac equally.

wav files and the audio conversion formats available on a pc/mac are numerous (think mp3 for instance), but none of those can be imported/read directly to the VS, because they cannot be converted into the proprietary Roland format. The exception to this is with the VS machines which have wav file import/export functions (the 2480 for instance). But in this case you are simply keeping the wav file format and importing it back into your VS.

At this time (and for the foreseeable future) there is no way, other than realtime re-recording, to import audio files back into a VS that does not have wav import/export functions (the 1680 for instance). This may not be 100% accurate, as I believe I recall conversations about people being able to do this with the VS840???? and their conversion utility.
