Hi everyone,
Trying to do a cd write, and getting the message, "not enough ide mem". Wondering if Im going to have to erase something else to make room for more mem?

Thanks in advance,
D.R.

Your 1680 uses the entire hard drive available space (across all partitions) when writing audio cds. One way you might be able to estimate how much free space you have and if it should be enough to write a cd and maybe how much space you might need to free up would be to add up all the free space you currently have.

I've always found it highly useful to set the display to show MBs Remaining (rather than the default time remaining).
1- use the Shift/Play Display (F6) to toggle to one of the view that shows the song title and the Remain amount.
2- use the Shift/System (F5), then System (F1), then Prm2 (F2) to show Remain Display options
3- Choose CapaMB (Capacity in MBs), then F6 (Play/Display) to return to your song title page. You should then see the number of MB in the Remain block. This number is the amount of MB remaining on that one active partition. You need to make this change in the display for each partition, because this setting is not one of the global settings, but at least you only have to do it one time per partition.

Write this number down. Now change to each partition on your hard drive, one at a time and change the display on whatever the current song is to show Remaining MBs. Add up all the numbers you got and this will give you a good idea of how much space is on the drive in MB.

Since your audio CD will use space on the disc in terms of MB, then this info will help you determine how much space should be available on the drive relative to the maximum space the 1680 will need to convert your mix data to write an audio CD - shouldn't be in excess of 700MB, the max space available on an audio CD disc.

If your available hard drive space is much larger than 700 MB and you're getting that message, then maybe the 1680 needs more than that to write the CD image file (and I misjudged the amount required), or maybe there's some data corruption on your hard drive that needs to be cleaned up before you can write the disc image.

If you don't have enough free space to write the CD image, then you need to find some stuff to delete. Erasing tracks/phrases is not enough in and of itself. You actually need to free up the hard drive space that data consumes. This will require some Song Optimize processing, possibly.

You can also try deleting entire Songs. This WILL free up hard drive space without further Optimizing. You will see the increase in hard drive space on the current partition each time you successfully wipe out some data.
