I like most of those albums, but favorites - like I would listen to it over and over and over ... maybe:

Rubber Soul
Revolver

That's a lot of great records on that list, for sure, but there are other things I'd also want to listen to.

I've done without the Stones or Sex Pistols for 60-odd years, so scratch them.

Not a big fan of Fleetwood Mac, either. But I probably have the album, though.

I'm sure I have all the rest, and I'll be keeping them.

I'd have put Astral Weeks on there.

None. I only know because I've done that in recent times. I'm not a fan of top whatever lists and such....if you asked how many I DO love--there are a handful of those. I have like 1700+ albums....maybe I should count again....it might be approaching 2000....the majority released 1986-2006 if we have to round to decades....but, MY TIME--MY youth....MY influence years. That's age 13-33 for me.

Hotel California would be the only one that would get into the running at top 100 probably. Even though Revolver and Abbey Road are tied as my fave Beatles records....the Beatles are WAY down the list of personal relevancy for me.

A tough call for me, to be sure. (if trying to squeeze into the Top 10.)

THAT's the 'Holy Grail' territory Al. It would be ONE thing to ask 'what would be your top 10 albums that influenced your playing as you grew up?'; but, In reality, you've got a super-miniscule listing of 19 albums.

Then, five are Beatles albums, and four are Zepplin albums. That almost cuts the list in half, plus two. So there's really only a dozen groups here, with the vast majority in the 60's.

Where's the room for new material over the past 50 years?

I'm in agreement with Pop on this one. Too many excellent albums to limit the top ten to these. Although Thriller, Hotel California, & DSOTM are favs of mine.

This is not my personal list of anything, just a list of records I consider iconic and likely to be on people's lists.

I listen to more new material than anyone here as an indie music curator.

They had similarities -- liked the production sound of the Zombies on that album ... Have a photo of them in Abbey Road .. on the studio walls .

The Beatles had been in the day before & so they were able to use their gear :: Just why & how they were able to use the Mel-tron

Two four track machines synced together by Geoff That hard left and right final production ...

Two of the CDs in my minimum collection ...

I listen to a lot of newer music -- just have know idea who is playing in the background .. its a streaming station I have been with since 1999 -- just a husband & wife -- loading a great mixture 24/7

And that's the point, me thinks.

I think there's some Rolling Stone worshipping myth that the late 60s was not just the beginnings of "rock" or "pop music as art form" but that it's never progressed. Never been better. One of those is fairly objective....the other is a weird perversion of the truth by most any benchmark you want to use.

Rarely in the WORLD is the very first iteration of ANYTHING "the best". But, I feel like it's the soundtrack to so many VERY white people's drug and sex discovery of youth....that it triggers some kind of mini emotional flashback. Maybe like when I hear some John Hughes soundtrack from the middle 80s. It's part of not only my childhood, but some greater experience as a whole...did I love "Don't you Forget About Me" when I heard it on the radio? Ehh....not as much as I did after seeing the Breakfast Club 900 times on VHS tape....

Don’t forget Tesla.

I grew up with the hair metal stuff cuz my older sister was into that.

Also dig the Tears for Fears and such but don’t know their catalogs as intimately.

This Tesla song is better than any rolling stones album.

(Though both bands are equally ugly.)

well, I don't really put a date on quality music. As I've said before, eras of all forms of art happen, they shine or they flail. The years of Elvis the King thru the Clash were a peak in rock culture.
