I used to have a fairly good stereo system, with a Harmon Kardon amp into Klipsch speakers, but that was 20 years ago. I miss it sometimes – like today.

So I hooked a CD player into analog 1 and 2 on my VS2480. I put a high pass filter (100 hz) on those channels and routed them left and right into my little Roland digital monitors. Since you can split inputs on the VS2480 I also routed inputs 1 and 2 into channels 3 and 4 and applied a low pass filter there (100 hz) and used an aux bus to output those channels into my bass amp (voila: a poor man’s sub).

Then I put on some Wagner: Highlights from “The Ring” by the N.Y. Philharmonic.

Yeah – that was fun!

Riding with the Valkyries is always a rush - especially when you can feel the bass drums!

My son and I saw the third opera in the Ring cycle--"Siegfried"-- performed by Chicago Lyric Opera about 15 years ago. At the end of the 5+ hour long performance, we looked at each other and agreed that it's "not a single note too long".

We are both horn players-- and ol' Richard could certainly write for the instrument.

I could die a happy man in an opera orchestra.

I vividly recall a friend of mine (just after college, when he got a job with Microsoft) bought a fancy new truck with a killer sound system. To demonstrate it for me he cued up Siegfried's funeral music from the fourth opera. That was amazing.
