You’re assuming everybody is experiencing the same issues and therefore knows exactly what you’re on about.

Is your drive full? Do you have many projects on it? Have you done lots of editing? Have you ever optimised any projects? Maybe your drive is dying.

Could be any of these, could be all of them. Could be something else altogether.

Making backups and then converting to (compact)flash, is your safest bet in my opinion.

If you back up all of your songs CD data thru the SCSI or to a computer thru Virdis, you could re initialize the internal hard drive in the 1680. This should eliminate the problem. I'd double check to make sure all of your songs are backed up though, and if you've customized any of your onboard effects, write down those settings to make sure they are not lost. You will be going back to a totally clean hard drive, so the current songs will have to be reloaded.

The onboard effects data is not stored on the hard drive of a 1680 - other than that data that relates to specific Song backups, so writing all the settings down for user presets should be totally unnecessarily in preparation for wiping the hard drive clean. Writing all those user presets out for future reference, or for safekeeping if the machine fails in some way that wipes them out is certainly not a bad idea, however.

I agree totally with Heartwaves on all the other suggestions.

Verifying backup CDRs is so important and goes beyond just turning on the Verify option when creating a backup disc. Although finding a way to create enough free space on the hard drive to verify by reloading your backups to CDR might be a difficult task and one that requires some strategic moving of Songs from partition to partition, it's the only method I ever found that was actually a verification of a successful backup disc.

If wiping the drive doesn't do the trick and stop the drive busy messages, then it could just mean that your drive is due to be replaced. It could also mean that your drive's speed and access time are too slow, if you're using an older style spinner drive.
