I am mixing three songs on my 2480 that I recorded with a local band.

I have done the first track and set my compressions and EQ to nice levels and most of the tracks have similar instrumentation.

IS it possible on the 2480 to copy or import my settings into the other two songs?

This would save me a lot of time having to write down the settings and then set them up again for each of the other tracks.

Anyone know if this is possible on the 2480?

I don't use the 2480, so I won't be able to give you a definitive answer. But I can suggest what might be a fairly quick workaround and it may also be something that translates well for you down the road.

I imagine this -
1- I make a copy of the whole project file (SONG, in VS1680 terminology) on any partition that has plenty of free space.
2- I go to the copy and erase all of the tracks, but keep all of the settings, rename the file to "something" template and then optimize the file to remove any data markers and free up the size of the file. This becomes my project template.

3- Copy the project template over 2 times to the partition where I want all the project songs to reside (or wherever it's convenient and I have space for tracks to be copied).
4- Make one of the templates the active file and give it the name of one of the 2 songs needing those settings.
5- Use whatever method the 2480 gives you to merge the tracks of the song with the same name into the template file.

In my mind, this should put all of the tracks into the empty template file and placed in their appropriate channels (assuming you import the tracks into the correct channel order in the first place).

The track import may have to be done one track at a time, or maybe there's a more simple method to merge the 2 song files with the destination file being the template with all the mixer settings you want. In the 1680, there's a process called something like SONG COMBINE that could do this, I think (it's been a very long time since I've used this process).

I also might suggest that you can use this template creation device for any future projects that you feel will require repeated settings, including fx, I believe (although any fx settings that deviate at all from the default will first need to be saved as a user preset and then that preset being used for the project).

I used to always keep a CD-R with a handful of blank template files that I could copy onto the hard drive in advance of a live recording session I was in the habit of doing 3-4 times a year. I would load a blank template into each partition I knew the concert would require (we only have 2GB partition limits) and name each template in advance. As the concert went on, I would save the current recording and switch to the next partition and pre-named template, with all input mixer setting already made for me, ready to continue recording within a couple minutes.

A variation I used was to create the "real" template from one of the copies, while setting up and recording a dress rehearsal. Then, I would copy that template to the other partitions either while it was still empty of tracks, or empty it by erasing the tracks from the copy, renaming it and optimizing it to free up hard drive space again.

I hope this is useful to you - and I hope there's an even simpler process offered by others.

How comfortable are you with MIDI? I believe you'd be able to do a bulk MIDI dump of the first project's settings and receive the SysEx data back into any other project in order to duplicate settings.

This might not help you now, but next time you record more than one song, when
selecting "New project" ( song #2 ) click options "Copy Parameter" , then the
new blank project will have exactly the same settings ( Not VS8F-3 plug-ins though )

Cheers !

I hate to sound like a smart ass, but couldn't you just write it down? With the slow way that the VS does everything, that would be quicker than asking the question. No insult intended, I just know how convoluted tasks are on the VS. Good luck to you.

Sorry, I missed reading the line in your post about writing it down. I guess I am a smart ass. Good luck to you still.

Maybe one "easy" way to solve the "problem" is to take pictures of each channels
settings ( if you have a VGA screen ) with your cellphone ....
At least easier than writing down all settings
Ive done it a couple of times and its "fast neasy"

Cheers !

Hi there. I really don't know if that's possible. Also, I have a VS-2000cd.

But you could record more then one song in a project, and place a marker at the end of the previous/ beginning of the next song.
If it is basically the same sound/ volume level on every track for the different songs, I do this myself.

You can do that also for when making a cd of multiple songs. After you made stereo masters for the songs, you can place cd markers for every song. So when you burn it, the burner 'sees' the different songs.

I believe if you simply create a duplicate project, then rename the new one, all parameters will be saved. Of course you would need to erase the instrument recordings.
