i don't know...

i've post 4 full length albums' worth of original material here,
and never felt treated gingerly.

maybe treated like a 'ginger' (i am not)

but not gingerly.

Exact copies don’t move me much, but I have no problem w people
doing what they like.

But original sounding covers are as much a creative thing as originals.

I love that stuff.

the reason for this cover,
was hurricane katrina had just almost ruined new orleans,
and i grew up there for a while,
so it was personal.
that's where this cover came from.

I think people generally liked his last couple of songs that he posted, he doesn’t know what to do with that positive attention here.

I’m wondering if I have enough covers to do a cover album:

Yesterday, Moon River, Celito Lindo, all blues, everybody’s party, for what it’s worth, comes love, rain, I can see clearly now, America the beautiful, oh Shenandoah, all the little horses, and entire albums of worth of holiday music…

I find it odd that Al bemoans the lack of coverage on original tunes yet he never comments on them.

Nose flutes are optional for either choice.

Well, a fret dress shouldn’t take that long on a nose flute.

The delay is probably due to Covid-19.

You seem to be handling it well.

I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have my nose flute for months and months.

Beams.

I like to cover songs that I wish I had written. I also do covers because I am not a song writer.....or even a musician really. I have always considered myself a 'hobby' guitar player. I enjoy the recording, mixing and producing side far more than musical side and I enjoy the challenge of recreating songs that I wish I had written.

As for other people here....I like to hear their original stuff.....but I also like to hear their cover stuff.

Some of what I work on is covers because that's what the band does. Some of what I work on is original because that's what the person does. I've posted both.

I don't think there is a preference one way or another here. People should do what they want. It's all good, it's all positive. I like hearing peoples' original ideas, but if people want to do something they love, well why not?

...a new musical performance is new music...just as much as "original songs" are almost completely (and in some cases COMPLETELY) derivative of past songs.

They're both making music. That's good. Hopefully fun. Certainly a healthy pursuit during this disquieting interlude. #albumtitleoftheday

I think that a lot of what AL's noticed isn't what he perceives. #whatsNew --people speak gingerly when things suck beyond belief, because they want to be positive and supportive. I don't think it's the case of all original material--I think it's the case of shitty original material. Shitty covers, and man, there are plenty of those going around...have an automatic "in" for the positivity folks--"I love that song"...they recognize something in it they love--even if you're playing the guitar a 16th not behind the beat unintentionally and you're "kind of" singing the melody or you have a shitty drum machine rolling a loop behind you. It reminds me of Motown's funny saying "I get what you're trying to do up there" !! When that level of execution meets an original song that's as craftlessly built--what are you gonna say except "I like the lyrics"? Because--you know--you UNDERSTAND what the lyrics mean. Making the most ass backward, ham fisted lyrics get the positive review. What ELSE could they POSSIBLY say positive? I know..."That might be my favorite song BY YOU..."
