Inspired by a bunch of things, I'm working on my laptop in little ways to try and help myself start working on other music projects.

One upgrade that was just ... so ridiculously easy was upgrading the RAM. Came stock with 8 GB, for $75 I upgraded to two different RAM sticks (I guess I should've just bought an additional 8 GB, what a dope).

Also on their way - an external SSD drive which I'm hoping to run some of the orchestral software from. maybe even Reaper. We'll see if that helps.

I am at this point with a desktop and laptop each with 8, I haev had issues with blue screens with RAM that weren't matched...that may be an issue of previous OS though...

It’s a BIOS level issue—either it’s smart enough to downgrade all ram chips to the slowest version of every timing spec....or you have problems with mismatched RAM.

If I’m reading flat right, he bought two new 8gb sticks matched as a 16gb set. That IS what you want to do if you can’t perfectly match the stock one.

OK, so I am already learning some stuff that's important.

Mainly, that I'm abusive to my computer. Hahahahahaha

I tend to keep multiple browser tabs open all the time, and looking at the task manager, it looks like just having a "fun" browser (Firefox) and a work browser (Chrome) at the same time uses nearly 8GB. No wonder my system was so prone to choking.

I need to be better about switching stuff off, especially when I work on music.

It's like an arms race. The more computing power you have, the more computing power newer software wants to use.
I hope the added RAM helps with the Spitfire software.
