Hi folks, I can't work out what I,m missing with this one:
Have a number of songs recorded, done mix down to two tracks for recording to CD, I can't get the Tag (tap marker) things to individualise the songs. So I end up with one 40 minute song instead of the 10 songs I want. There is a couple of seconds gap between each song & the tap marker is at the start of each song.

Any ideas where I am cocking it up?

It sounds as though you haven't used the right sort of marker - tap markers, automation markers and cd markers.
pg 177 of the pdf user guide describes the process as follows:

The location of a track number on a finished CD-R is
determined by the position of CD track markers in the
VS-1680 song. A CD track marker is placed by holding down
[PLAY (DISPLAY)] and pressing [TAP]. A new marker
number appears in the VS-1680 display. This marker will
have a small “c” following it, to designate it as a CD track
number.

i might be completly wrong but back when i was
having a vs-1824cd

i had to put 2 (normal marker) anywhere on the first song
(not at begining but on the song


sorry if im wrong as i go from memory..

ok i get it,this is a cut from the manual of the
vs-1824 (i think it work same way for 1680 also)

CD Track Number Tip
When setting up CD track markers for a full length CD-R, it’s easy to get confused by the discontinuity between the CD track marker number and the actual CD track number created. During the CD-R writing process, regular markers—placed by pressing [TAP]—are ignored by the CD-R. By placing two regular markers during the first song, the subsequent CD track markers match the actual CD track numbers which they will create.Before using the CD Write function, place two “dummy” markers somewhere during the first song. It doesn’t matter where the two dummy markers are placed, as they will be ignored by the CD-R. The first two marker numbers are 000 and 001. Place the next marker using [PLAY (DISPLAY)]+[TAP] (to indicate a CD track number) where you want the second track of the CD to begin. This will be marker 002c.Beginning of Song

Middle of Song #1 Normal Marker #000(ignored by CD-R)

Middle of Song #1 Normal Marker #001(ignored by CD-R)

The process you outlined from your 1824 manual is not the same as what the 1680 required - just for clarity's sake.

There is no need to place dummy markers in the 1680 process and if there are already other tap markers being used for some other reference needs, the point of placing dummy markers to make it easier to identify songs and markers is negated as a result...
Maybe this is suggested in the 1824 manual in an otherwise 'clean' master song session purely for the visual reference convenience. It really serves no other purpose essential to burning an audio cd that I can imagine.
