Hi Larzo16 - appreciate your reaching out to us for help, but your post leaves a lot to be desired, if you expect to get any real help aside from very basic comments.

It will help a lot if you'll do three things for us:

1 - Begin a new thread for your issue
2 - Write in sentences - makes it much easier for us to decipher your points
and 3 - Give us more/better details about your setup - which scandisk card, what adapter - and any other details you can think of to the best of your ability.

There are known issues with certain adapters and certain cards (some scandisk, as you mentioned), but it's difficult for us to be helpful beyond very general answers without your help in the ways I've suggested. Please begin a new thread and give us these details and I'm sure people will offer the best they can muster.

Whew! I sure am glad you're all still here cause' everyone's worst nightmare has happened to me: I just attempted to recover a song backed up by cd and the Plextor Cd player cannot find any info. I accessed this data last year to edit this song and it loaded fine. I tried numerous other backup discs and they all loaded fine. I noticed there isn't the normal shadow normally seen on a cd that has been burnt. Also, there are two or three holes in the foil about the size of a pin. I understand there is data recovery software out there, but I don't know what type of files Roland uses, I am guessing they would be specific only to Roland VS players. Also, I use the VS880ex stand alone: I've never used a PC with the Vs. I don't know how the data recovery software could read the disc if I tried inserting the disc in a PC. If anyone has any thoughts out there I sure would appreciate it. Thanks in advance !

Hey Uptildawn and Greetings all!

I'm sorry to be such a ghost, and a poor steward of posted photos, but I think I fixed one of those traits, anyway.
The hosting site that held the photos of my CF conversion turned into a pumpkin and I think I finally found one that's durable. I tried to refresh the posts but the system wouldn't let me and Hook came to the rescue, managing to deep-dive the edits and the pictures are all back.
(Thanks again, Hook!)

Just to give a little bump: Post 1049354 and 1063481

will_f, Really loving the 3D prints of the drive bay closure and (especially) the caddy!

Greetings from a newcomer to the forum. I have a VS-880EX and recently my HDD has crapped out (VS says "no disc"). I am trying to figure out what adapters to use to do the SSD conversion. I bought an 8GB SDHC card and a 2.5 to 3.5 laptop adapter, and a hi-speed SD SDHC SDXC MMC Memory Card to IDE 2.5" 44 pin male adapter. I opened up the VS880EX and found a 50 pin cable. Can someone please point me in the direction of an adapter that will work with the 50 pin cable in the VS880EX?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Could you give us links to each device you've bought for this mod?
Have you searched and read through some of the info that's on the forums here about these mods yet? If not, it may shed some light for you.

In the past, all the mods I did on my own VS' did not require a whole new 2.5" to 3.5" assembly. The one in the VS already has the necessary pin jack adaptor. I only bought an SDHC/CF card adapter (and card) and slid them into the existing hd cavity in the front of the VS, replacing the internal hd.

This required that I remove the hd from the caddy and bridge card that was attached and put the SD card adapter in place of the hd. That way I could (and can) easily slide in/out the SD card adapter, attached to the caddy assembly. No internal modification of the VS is necessary doing the mod this way.

Take a good look at the earlier posts in this thread to have a better idea of what I am talking about......

You might want to start your own thread on the subject, while you give us links and maybe more details of how you're going about this mod - pics would be useful.

The internal hard drive on my VS-880 died after all these years. I tried following some of the advice in this thread. I got a 44-pin SD to IDE converter. I got a 4GB Lexar SDHC card. I installed them. Everything seems to be fine after formatting. However, after shutting down and powering off, when I power back on, the VS-880 wants to format my "IDE" drive again. This does not happen if I restart without powering down. If I restart without powering down, my settings are saved.

Does anyone have any thoughts on where the problem might be?

Thanks!

You will discover that this has been a particular problem for those who have used SD adapters, if you read enough posts about these mods.

The one possible solution you may still find would be to get a hold of a CF card converter instead. You might get an SD to CF adapter that will hold your SD card to put into the CF to IDE converter, if you have a bunch of SD cards and no CF cards.

There have been a few posts recently from people who are running into the same issue you have with your SD card converter, however. It may or may not work with the first converter you try. Best bet would be to find some of the posts that describe using the CF version and try to get what they suggest - stay away from dual converters, or fast cards with modern features, which not only do not benefit the VS mod, but might work against it.

Search the 1680 and 880 forums, both. You should find something fairly recent (within the past 2 years possibly) that may still have links and or images that may help.

I was able to get it to work with CF to IDE and SD to CF. Thanks for the pointer!

Good to hear that worked for you. I had also done one mod that used the CF to IDE with SD to CF adapter and it's worked well.

Sorry for the late reply - I somehow missed this post from the 15th.

The cf adapter and cf card have apparently been more reliable in avoiding the issue of the vs wanting to reinitialize the card after having removed it to extract wav files on a pc.

the cf adapter and sdhc card works well, too, by using an additional cf/sd converter device - looks like a cf card, but has a slot for an sd card.

Other variables apply - cf card type and speed, sd class - and possibly even some cf adapters - will potentially affect the success or failure of the mod.

At any rate, the cf mod appears to continue to be a better choice than the sd mod.

There's a bit of ongoing testing going on in this thread, for those who might read this and not know already -
