Greetings!

From Haysonics in 2014 in response to my post re the 2000:

 Quote:
The 2000 has combo coax/fiberoptic inputs and outputs. I use a digital coax cable as that is what they had at my local electronics store ( no difference in quality between them unless you have the coax near a VERY high RF source ). You can order a fiber optic cable easily enough off the net, just make sure it has the round connectors rather than the square (toslink). You could be forgiven for not knowing they were combo jacks unless you noticed the light coming out the middle.

H is correct-- there is red light shining from the output. What type of cable is used for the optical connection? The standard round plug? I've searched for something that would connect optically and come up with nothing. The RCA type wired coax does work fine, but I have another box with only optical digital connectors.

Interestingly, the VS-2000 manuals make no mention of the combo connectors, just wired coax-- not optical.

Any insight is welcome.

All the photos I see of the 2000's rear panel show only coaxial/rca jacks. All the photos I find of the 2400 have both coaxial and optical jacks (as do many other vs models). Frankly, I've never encountered a coaxial/optical combo jack and I don't find any in web searches.

Maybe this was some sort of mod? Although it doesn't seem likely to me that such a beast exists - given my scant understanding of the differences between the two formats (which is mostly limited to the physical).

Rereading your post - I seriously think there is just one type of coaxial/rca jack - with the traditional round pin that the analog phono plug uses. The cable you are used to using is the only one I am aware of. It's a 75 ohm cable with the yellow boot, most often used for video in the a/v world.
