The story of the Afghan refugees has been completely overwhelmed in the news. Thousands of Afghans who have been evacuated from Afghanistan need assistance now that they have arrived in the United States.
One way you might consider is a program called Sponsor Circles:

Basically, you gather four of your neighbors, pool some money, and agree to assist an Afghan family resettle in your community. You and your neighbors will help them find a place to live, get some furniture, start English language, and be a general support to them as they try to get on their feet after fleeing the Taliban with basically the clothes on their backs.
I think this is a fantastic opportunity for people to help others much less fortunate than themselves and provide real, meaningful, person-to-person support to people who need it.
