Woke up and opened Facebook to see if there was anything new there and saw a lengthy and loving tribute to Chris from his wife, Cristine. She indicated he had died just after midnight on the 9th. I don't see anything else posted here. Such sad news. Hook was one of the key players here at the Planet for so many years. I last saw him at his moving sale when he was leaving Ohio for Florida, and I bought his 2480 at a bargain price. He gifted me with a large bag of cables and such, generous to a fault. I noted at the time that that this move was Florida's gain and Ohio's loss. Glad to have met him and spent a little time in his home and gutted to have lost him.
Cristine ended her tribute by saying "Chris will always be the greatest gift God ever gave me."

He was also co-author, along with Vince Gibbs and Karl Frick, of the "Roland VS Recorder POWER!" guide, published a good few years ago now. It never made the best sellers list (on his own admission!) but I managed to get a copy courtesy of a Planet member some months ago. Apart from it being an operation guide, it also features the history behind each model up to the 2000CD.
He also compiled a really helpful 880EX guide for beginners - so useful, I had the few pages laminated when I first started.
God speed, Hook. Condolences to Cristine and your daughters.

so sad to hear this, RIP Chris
he was one of 'the good guys', so much help here at the planet, rarely devolved into the bad guys.
he got me thru my 880ex days for sure. he will be missed.

BEAMS to Hook's wife Cristine and his family and friends, and to Planeteers. Hook may be gone but his legacy of generosity and willing service to his community remains.

OMG! Terrible, terrible news.
Hooks has done so much here to make and keep things running behind the scenes. He was a good guy indeed. I'm so sad for his family...wife and daughters.
At times like these, there are no words. 😢😢😢

I'm so very sad to see and hear this. Hook was a really good dude, based on my encounters with him, and they were all positive as my recollection goes. All the best to his loved ones and those he left behind. What a loss...

This is Cristine's statement on Facebook:
My husband is one of those men that just can’t be memorialized with words. God made Chris with a servant’s heart that was the foundation for everything he did. Chris has never needed recognition, attention or to be in the spotlight. He served his co-workers tirelessly, his church - wherever we lived- with passion and commitment, his friends, widows, a variety of ministries and especially his family. Oh, how magnanimously Chris has loved and served me and his girls and his grandson! Whether changing diapers, playing candy land enthusiastically even after 20 years, teaching driving, going to swim meets, doing the dishes, or singing along to wheels on the bus, Chris has always given his all with little to no expectation of anything in return. His service has always poured out of a genuine heart of love.
After Chris asked Christ to be his Lord and Savior on October 26, 1997, he was a changed man! God removed his “heart of stone” and gave him a heart of gentleness, compassion, wisdom, generosity and love. He was a godly servant-leader in our home who lived out his faith with honesty, integrity and honor. There are so many things I want to say about Chris; his many musical and technological talents, his patience, his incredible mind, his total self-control, his humor, his amazing memory… Chris was the most approachable, likable and most welcoming man I know.
I don’t know how to end this but his life on earth has ended. Chris, my beloved husband and my very best friend died just after midnight on Saturday morning.
We are simply broken. The pain feels like I will not be able to endure. He was the color and joy and purpose and rudder in my life. Chris always will be the greatest gift God ever gave me. Please pray for us.
