Let's see if Hurts can do anything before garbage time.

The Eagles are only down 7 and need to run the ball (their RBs).
Hurts has no time, has happy feet anyway, and already is looking like a deer in the headlights.
If they don't, this is shaping up to be a long day.

We need a stop or else it will be Hurts in garbage time.
Well, at least he's a good running QB.

After going 0-5 Hurts was utterly dominant.

The Lions kept coming and coming, they are a good team.

A quality win.

We are capable of getting 40 points. Providing that the opponent puts up 43 or so. I also think we could possibly hold a team to 3 points. Providing they shut us out.
They had to quit bringing the good year blimp to Detroit because all of our players fought over who could suck it. Soooo embarrassing.

Well…..I’ll put away my Lions hat again until next preseason.

The Eagles were lucky to eek out a win. Sure, they beat the Liars, one of the worst teams in the NFL last year, but that won't cut it against the better teams.

It almost looked like the Eagles at the start of last year: they came out trying to force the pass game. The Liars D was amped up, they were blitzing from all over, and the Eagles had difficulty.

They should have been running the ball more, and I mean with their RBs, not just Hurts. It's not a formula for winning when your QB has more rushing attempts and yards than all of your RBs combined. The RBs only surpassed him towards the end of the game when the Birds were trying to wind down the clock.

It's also not good when only one receivee made catches. Well, okay...one other receiver had one catch. DeVonta Smith was MIA.

The good news is that one receiver, AJ Brown, is an absolute stud. Wow, it's nice to have a true #1. He's the best Eagles receiver since TO!

But Hurts has to look at his other receivers going forward.

A win is a win and I'm happy to take it. Still...

But it was on the coaching, not Hurts so much...he played well and pulled some magic tricks out of his hat with his legs and made nice passes.

That's what you call dominant? He looked just like last year, only with one great receiver, the one he constantly looked for.
He played solidly but hardly great or dominant, saved the day with his feet.
There's just one thing about that: he's the QB.

Yep, credit to their game plan. They went after Hurts hard and wouldn't let him get comfortable.

Hardly. They'll be better than last year but that's a low bar.
The Eagles were missing a bunch of tackles, especially early, then playing soft D after they had a lead.
They almost gave the game away.

That's a contradiction.

The Eagles will be good and should win the NFC East.
However, Sirianni will have to adapt sooner than last year; he can't wait until the season is half over to do so again.
I like him and think he will.

Hurts is never gonna be a great QB. He will be solid, good but not great, and will continue to look one way and then run.
His legs will save him, for now.
But within a couple of years, he'll be a backup/spot starter.
He was never drafted to be the man, but as a change of pace QB on a team that can use him like the Saints did Taysom Hill...that's what he was drafted to do.
If Wentz didn't repeatedly implode, that's what Hurts might be doing now (or been traded for draft capital).

The Eagles will never ultimately win with Hurts. They'll be lucky to win a round or two each year in the playoffs.
They would have to be absolutely dominant defensively to win big. They're good, but not that good.

Al, you remind me of Howard Eskin (longtime Philly sportscaster for those that don't know).
Eskin is good at fantasy sports because he pours over fantasy stats. But he often doesn't seem to recognize what he watches.
You are either like that, or a blind homer....and maybe both.

You should be eating crow, cause Hurts was outstanding. Speaking of fantasy fb, he was 4th of all QBs yesterday.

How is it a contradiction to say the Birds have a good team but the Lions almost beat them?

I got Swift and St. Brown on my team btw.

Right, it's all about fantasy numbers for you. That's cool and all, but that doesn't make for SuperBowl level football.

 Originally Posted By: Al

Because you're not a good team (yet) when you almost blow a 17 point lead in the 4th quarter to one of the worse teams in the league, and barely eek out a 3 point win 38-35.

The Eagles were bad defensively, including bunches of missed tackles, etc.
There was concern to start the season that Sirianni's lack of hitting during the pre-season might show up and maybe it did.
They'll be okay. They do have a talented team for sure. But you can't waste games, even in week 1, and they almost did.

your mistake calling the Lions one of the worst teams in the league. That would be Seattle, the Jets, Houston, possibly Atlanta.

Hurts was outstanding, I'll take the 31 points he put up every game.

So, you listed four teams as the worst. Where would you have placed the Lions? Surely well below average, no?

Sure, you'll take 31 points, as would anyone.
The problem is that 31 points is not guaranteed.
Against better teams, the Eagles are going to have to be better.

I'm not pinning this on Hurts at all, other than he needs to look beyond Brown moving forward.
It's on Sirianni to have a better game plan or at least to be able to adapt depending on what their opponents might bring.
Hurts played well, especially considering having the Lions in his shirt all day.
I'm just hoping he progresses as a passer this year.
He has the physical attributes to be very good, and along with his running, special in his own way.
Oh, major props to Jalen for not making mistakes and getting rid of the ball when all else failed.
Almost a couple of intentional grounding calls maybe, but they weren't, so good on him.
If only Wentz had ever learned, just maybe....

Again, it's on the coaching staff to put Hurts in a positions to succeed, to spare him from constant harassment, and to keep him from getting beat to death.

They need to run the ball with purpose, starting early, with their backs. They have 3 good to very RBs, plus Hurts, of course. While having the luxury of Hurts as a running threat is great, it shouldn't be the focus of their running attack. Give the ball to the backs, spare Jalen, and start grinding down the defense early (let Jalen stick it to them late and when absolutely necessary early).

Those short slant passes can be a thing of beauty and help get Hurts untracked.
The Eagles have 3 legit receivers who can turn those short completions into 1st downs and more, with just a block or two. Make it two or three blocks and they can take it to the house. Wouldn't that be nice? And wasn't it a beautiful thing watching AJ Brown?!?! Now to get Smith untracked, and get Watkins involved. Then there's Goedert, of course. And Gainwell. And...

Isn't it nice to not have to see a James Thrash, Torrance Small, or Freddie Mitchell slosh around like they're in quicksand?

Now, to fix the defense. There's too much talent for them not to be good to very good.

You guys must not get football if you watched that Eagles/Lions game and didnt see what a good team the Lions are. I think they will win 7-9 games this year. They are up and coming. Really good o-line. Their cornerbacks were good.

The Eagles ran for over 200 yards yesterday, I'm good with that.

Devonta will get a lot of targets against the Vikings this coming week.

The Eagles defense better improve on a hurry or the Vikings might run all over them.

of course not.

The Eagles have kind of owned the Vikings in the last decade.

i kind of thought we'd lose to the Lions. I think that will be a close game. at home on Monday night football.

You were never in this "argument", it was a blowout and a shutout.

You've been an emotional fan boi the entire time, as always...analyzing fantasy stats because you have no idea what you're watching, IF you are even watching (I have my doubts) - all caught up with your popcorn and pom poms. C'mon, admit it, you didn't actually watch the game, did you?

Sure, the Eagles had over 200 yards rushing. Their QB had half of it running for his life.
The RBs got a good chunk of theirs in the 4th quarter running out the clock, almost a quarter of it on one play.

Meanwhile, D’Andre Swift never gained more than 617 yards in a season but ran for a career high 144 yards against the Birds. But you're happy with that because you have him on your fantasy team (and it was an unexpected boon for you Sunday).

Did I mention the Eagles D line got NO pressure on the QB?

All of this against a team who was in the bottom six at best last year (their record was worse).

Sure, the Eagles have the potential to be good. Right now, they're not, but that can change quickly

Jalen Hurts, your hero, is below average as a passer, at reading defenses, at pocket awareness, and with a below average NFL arm. He is an excellent running QB, but again, he's a QUARTERBACK.
His one positive attribute also, in case you're not aware of this, makes it more difficult maintaining a pocket for him...he runs out of it too quickly. But that's not stat, certainly not a fantasy stat, so you have no clue about it. You don't recognize it if and when you actually watch a game.

Now run along, Homer....you're embarrassing yourself.

You are totally, MG. You've been putting down Hurts nonstop, he gets on the field, orchestrates a W, while being ranked the 4th best QB of the week thus far.

then like a lunkhead you won't back down. You got mental problems, bitch.

PS Swift was great last year too but he got injured, you of course didn't know that cause you're a pretender at sports like you are at politics, a fraudly fraud.
