Looks like if you lose the crank, you can use an allen wrench or philips screwdriver to put the strings on.

I guess there are 2 advantages with a zero fret.

Yeah, I decided that using a pick to tune was a good idea, since those tuners are kinda funky.

Good idea. That way you avoid wear on those screws.

So, here's the update.

I'm really getting used to the headless aspect, but the pickups are really anemic imho, about half the level of my other guitars. Rather than starting down the "swap pickup" road on a $250 guitar, I'm going to return it.

But of course I'm still thinking about multi-scale fretboards, and now that I know I can get used to the headless aspect, I just ordered this:

If it's half the level then something isn't right with the wiring. It's probably wired in parallel instead of series, or possibly single coil. You can check whether HB or SC just by tapping on each coil. If both are on, and you have an ohm meter, check. If it's >8kohm, it's in series. If it's in parallel, it will be about half of that. Simply rewire the PU.

Other than that, it sounds like you want to spend $1k to have other PUs put in. Swapping PUs is par for the course for low priced guitars. You can get a set of Tonerider Alnico IV or Generator (hot) PUs for $68.18, or their other sets for $80.00 and have the PU type you want.

If you really wanted to go cheap you could get a set of ceramic HBs for $18.99 or Alnico V for $25.99 on Amazon, but I'd stick to the Tonerider PUPs between the two.

Take a couple of minutes and check the PU output.

From what Ive seen, those are medium output. In one of the reviews, I read that one guy that has one plays metal with it and it sounds fine for him. The wiring is probably goofed up on Mooseboy's. He did say he had the volume problem with that one as well. $1.3K is a lot of money.

Well… I also want to try the multiscale aspect, so it's not just the pickups. Thanks for the input, though, guys!

And, for the record, I'm not dissing the guitar. It's just not the right one for me.

Hahahahaaaaaa! I was just watching Five Watt World on the history of Strandberg guitars, and found out that the model I bought, Boden, is named after a town in Sweden famous for their large reindeer population. This is because the body shape looks like antlers, they say.

So why do I feel like this has been predestined?

That does look like a well made guitar. Wild looking bridge.

Yeah, and I'm very intrigued by the neck shape (Endurneck or something like that). It's far from ordinary to say the least.
