And since mine was upgraded to a VS840ES, then the SCSI added Making it a VS840SEX, then the HD install makes it a VS840SEX-HD...(I personally like the "SEX" portion of that, guess the HD stands for???....ha ha).... Guess we could call them VS840SEXHDCLuxurisitoy huh Jim???? ha ha....

CF should probably also be added but you my friend will always be in a class all your own and I mean that complimentary. Aren't you the only one running an 840CF? See a class of your own dude! Thanks for all YOUR hard work and all the other contibutors that made our machines a more powerful tool for our recording and gearheaded enjoyment.

LMAO! Funny stuff, Jim.
This should be the Jim Y Tribute Thread.
Some cats did the HD upgrade here before Jim checked in. But that, in no way, diminishes Jim's contribution here. Plain and simple: Without Jim Y, there would be no hard drive in my VS840.
Jim- I tip my hat to you, sir. Your contribution here has been second to none! Thank you!

I agree. I was reading Jim Y's posts about this long before I did the HD install. Also John444 helped me alot as well along with others.
All Hail Jim Y... one dude!

...er... Actually, I was the first to use a HD, but my first effort was a desktop 3.5" with external psu. Someone else did beat me to fitting an internal laptop drive.

Hey, Jim. Hmmm. Yeah, that may be so. However, I do recall catching wind of the idea somewhere before you popped on the scene. Maybe the Yahoo Group?

I have to agree about the "Jim Y" tribute thread, allthough it was John Norlands thread that actually got me to do it, Jim had been emailing me telling me of things to try, and encouraging me NOT to throw my VS840 with a zip drive that had the "click of death" in it, against a concrete wall..lol.. There were many who helped me, but Jim took the time to really help me, and had paitence with me, even though I am by no means a "Tech Head. So Thanks to Jim, and All those who helped me get the Hard drive in my 840, and make it even better than it was before its zip drive fried!! (I'm still the pioneer of transferring the files to the direct CD's though)....

Leonard, the Yahoo group got the HD stuff from us! If someone did it prior to 13th July 2001 then they deserve to be named here

Check this one out to:

Was that first link for me leonard. It took me to a reply scene with me names on it. If so I used the zip drive in the pc after hd install. Just haven't used 840 much since hard drive install.

Sheesh, I wonder what happened to F***** B******? No, on reflection, I don't.
I remember reading up those old posts long ago, CindaP was actually refering to the SCSI drive, which of course you can't record to.
Epu's friend with the different drive had me facinated at the time as well as puzzled - there never has been an IDE Jazz drive so that couldn't have been it. As far as I know, the only other removable IDE drive at that time was from Syquest who had a 140meg drive but it required a +12volt supply so I assume the guy had got that worked out. The Syquest had reliabilty problems and the company folded under the weight of competition from Iomega who were really lucky considering the "click of death" trouble with early zip drives. I think I read somewhere that Iomega had 50,000 units fail. Amazing they survived.

I think Zoom, Korg and Tascam have them too now ... some cute little units - 4 or 5 track I think. One surprised me though with a 32Mb memory card, and sampling at 32 instead of 44.1 ...
Sure would be a blast on a trip ...
