Anyone here able to zip up an example of EVENTLST.VR1 and PM it to me?

I will add support for the VS-2480 tonight if I have an EVENTLST.VR1 file to test with:

Cheers,

Randy

OK, Now that we have this plugin working for both the VS-1680 and the VS-1880 here is my first cut at support for the VS-2480:

http://www.integrand.com/vs/reaper_vs.zip

Just unzip and place the DLL in the REAPER/Plugins directory and start Reaper (Version 1.40 or later) . You should be able to play VR1 files and drop them into the timeline (MTP only).

You should also be able to open the SONG.VR1 file as a project and have a fair approximation of your song load into a number of Reaper tracks. As I do not have a VS-2480, I am unable to fully test this myself. I am concerned I may not have the take file names quite correct, so please let me know how it works for you.

Thanks,

Randy

Anyone care to try this? I'm losing interest in supporting the VS-2480 and will probably table this indefinitely as it really is of no use to me now as I have a VS-1680.

Randy

I'd LOVE to try this. My only issue is getting the files into the PC.

I guess I need a scsi card fo the PC to connect to my songvault (acard) hard drive. I think my pci ports are maxed out at the moment.

I've read some talk about taking songs directly from the backup disks. That would be absolutely perfect.

Thanks a bunch for you hard work on this. Seriously, this is such a HUGE achievement. There will be many people interested in your program.

Wow.

This is an amazing development for the 2480. I'm not using a 2480 anymore(I'm in Samplitude) but Reaper is gaining a ton of respect out there and it's cheap. If this works well, it would open up a huge avenue for the 2480 - way better and way cheaper than the v-fire.

Randy,

Please don't give up support for the VS-2480.

I'll test the plugin with Reaper this weekend when
I'm back home!

I just now saw the new version. I'll try it shortly. I still haven't installed Reaper - but I will right now...

I'll post back later

OK all, I look forward to hearing your results.

If there is a problem with the media file name references, and you are interested in helping me to get it working, here is what you can do:

1) Using a DOS command prompt, go to your song directory and do "dir > FILES.TXT".

2) Zip up the EVENTLST.VR1 file and FILES.TXT file and send it to me.

This way I will be able to make sure the file names I'm generating for the project match what exists in the filesystem.

Thanks!

Randy

I can drag my take files into Reaper, but I can not open the Song.vr1 files. I get an error: "UKN encodings are currently not supported".

And when I play the VR1 file in Reaper, it is way fast (like 2x as fast). I tried using both of my soundcards, and both had the same result. I dragged a WAVE file from Nuendo into Reaper, and it played fine. Seems to be an issue with sample rate detection of the VR1 file?

I'll check back shortly. \:D

Interesting. Can you tell me what sample rate shows when you right-click the event in Reaper and select "Source Properties..."? I determine the sample rate by looking in the SONG.VR1 file that is in the same directory as the media, otherwise it should default to 44100.

>"UKN encodings are currently not supported".

I thought I was determining the encoding type properly from the SONG.VR1 file. Can you send me your SONG.VR1 file so I can analyze it?

I suspect I may be parsing out the wrong values for both the encoding and samplerate from the SONG.VR1 file. I'll double-check what I have done with Danielo's work. I may have assumed they were at the same offset as seen for the VS-1680.

Thanks,

Randy

I just e-mailed a Song.VR1 file.

Reaper thinks they are 64,000Hz Files

 Code:
Roland RDAC File
****************

Length: 0:09.215
Sample Rate: 64000
Bit Depth: 24
Encoding: UKN

Decoded By: Reaper VS Plugin Version 0.7
You kick ass!

Fantastic. I fixed it. Try version 0.8:

Now lets see if the media references are correct...

As far as I can tell - it seems fine now! I can't recall if I named the files or not (probably not) but they come up as the Track # and V-Track # as the 2480 would list them. Perfecto!

I'll play with it some more later, and report any issues...

Thanks again

Randy,

A bit off topic, but how does the summing engine within Reaper (aka the sound of the 'mix-bus') compare to other DAWs? Is it comparable with cubase and sonar ? Comparable to Nuendo and ProTools ?

Thanks

Yves

Randy #2 (me) hasn't compared Reaper to Nuendo yet - I have only used Reaper long enough to see if I could open a 2480 "Song.vr1" file. I'm swamped, but I will try and compare Reaper to Nuendo at some point.

I can't compare Reaper to much else right now (Nuendo or PT M-Powered is all I have at home), but maybe Randy #1 (randygo) can? It seems he uses Reaper as his primary DAW...

Reaper is free - so you could always compare it to your DAW Software anytime you want to ;\)

It's a 64-bit floating point mix engine. It doesn't get much better than that. I've never heard of any complaints. You can try searching through the Reaper forums for more info.

They update this like everyday, too! I DL'ed 1.38 a few days ago, and 1.41 was up last night

These guys are fairly serious about bug Fixes and Feature Additions, etc...

This level of development is really cool, and allows for some unusual abilities - as well as cool 3rd party add-ons (like this MTP Plug-In) due to its Open Source nature.

No, it is not the refined "Pretty" GUI of PT or Nuendo, but it is free \:\) and very functional so far... The Routing is INSANE with True Sidechaining

I only opened 2 projects, and quickly at that. From the 5 minutes I spent with it - it seemed to be fine. This was my first time to run Reaper as well (just installed it to test this DLL for Randygo).

I will probably use the Wave Exporter (the one Randygo and Danielo co-developed), and import the tracks into Nuendo (That is what I am used to).

But Reaper seems like it has serious potential IMO.

Wouldnt this be faster?

In other words, convert all 24 tracks to wav at once using the reaper plugin versus one at a time with the wav exporter?

Then import them into Nuendo.

The Wave Exporter can do "Batch Encoding" - a Track Map comes up, and you can select any or all of the V-Tracks on the Project, then it batch converts them to the specified directory.

I am not sure if Reaper can export the files as 24-Bit Waves. If it could - or even if Reaper could save as a "OMF" Project - that would rock!

I also have some projects that have 2 or 3 "projects" crammed into one "Project Name" by way of V-Tracks - so this Reaper DLL will put all projects in one Reaper project. With the Wave Converter - I can export each internal project to its own folder.

Any way you slice it - this is WAY FASTER than Exporting Waves to CD-R's, or doing a realtime transfer \:D \:D \:D I'm stoaked.

Would the 2480 be able to be used as a midi controller for reaper ? I would imagine yes. And more-over, can Reaper recording automation input when using the 2480 in this mode i.e. real time automation while flying the 2480's faders and pan buttons! Now that could be cool!

Just wanted to thank Randygo and all the users for this DLL for the 2480! My brother's studio burned down, and I was able to retrieve his 2480's hard drive, which still works. If it wasn't for Reaper and the DLL Randygo made, I would not be able to give him his music back (which is priceless) for his birthday next week! Thank you so much, these kinds of apps should really be provided by Roland. That will probably never happen!

Oh yeah, where can I find the "Wave Exporter" Randyman mentioned? If anyone has a link, that would be great. I am trying to organize all his "VRSONGS" and convert the single (and mixed) tracks to waves, looking for the best way.
