A report on Democracy Now states:
"Government Scientist Accuse Bush Administration of Interfereing, Misleading On Climate Change:
According to a new survey, hundreds of government scientists say they have perceived or personally experienced pressure from the Bush administration to eliminate phrases such as “climate change” and “global warming” from their reports and public statements. One of those scientists -- NASA climatologist Drew Shindell – testified Tuesday before the Committee on House Oversight and Government Reform."

On the Democracy Now TV Show this morning:
At the House Climate Change Hearing Rep. Henry Waxman was asking NASA scientist Dr. Drew Shindell about his claims of being censored by the Bush administration's Philip Cooney. Appointed to the EPA Commission and not a scientist by trade, Phil Cooney is a lawyer and former oil lobbyest who now handles the reports coming from NASA on climate change. Dr. Shindell said that in the past they would just check his reports for clarity and maybe change them up a bit for the public but since Bush has been in office they have censored his reports on global warming to read like there is no definative proof for global warming.

From Democracy Now's website: "NASA climatologist Drew Shindell, testifying Tuesday before the Committee on House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Shindell goes on to say,
While continued warming is inevitable, the seriousness of the consequences of climate change will depend upon societal action to limit the emissions of greenhouse gases and pollutants that are the dominant cause of global warming. These consequences include droughts and flood, increased severity of summer heatwaves, and rises in sea level that could devastate low-lying coastal areas."

Dr. Drew Shindell about being censored,
"While it was frustrating for me to see my work suppressed, even more importantly it’s a disservice to the public to distort or suppress information needed. But that experience is only one example of a series of actions that attempted to suppress communication of climate science to the public."

REP. HENRY WAXMAN: "Many experts are telling us that global warming is one of the most severe environmental threats facing this nation and the world, that challenges confronting us are enormous potentially, and therefore, I think policymakers have an obligation to understand the science, and we need to get that scientific information without any manipulation of the science, without any suppressing of the reports, or misleading the public about the issues seems to me would be a breach of the public trust. So we have been asking for this information."

They go on to discuss in detail the particular phrases and sentences that have been changed/censored to keep the truth from coming out about how serious this issue is.

Rep. Henery Waxman ended this discussion saying "...In effect, it appears that there may have been an orchestrated effort to mislead the public about the threat of global climate change. These are serious allegations, and they are ones that we'll be exploring in detail in this hearing and in our ongoing investigation."

Just thought I would share this with my fellow Planeteers. Looks like the cat's out of the bag. Maybe this is why there is so much confusion surrounding the subbject of "Global Warming" and "Climate Change?"

If Brazil can free its country from being dependent on oil using alternative energies, anybody can. It doesn't take the huge sacrifies we've all been told it will take, by this administration, just a few changes in what we use for energy and how we provide that energy. The U.S. didn't sign the Kyoto Treaty so we are now polluting the air more than any country on this planet. They even watered down the treaty for the U.S. and still we refused to sign it.
What is the Kyoto Treaty?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/2233897.stm

So let's not even try to do something about an issue that is now a real threat to every one on this planet?

Frank, China has passed us up. No regs on their polluting, and environmental evidence abound.

So if China is polluting the planet that justifies our polluting? I guess the same goes for human rights violations and tortue. Did you even read the House interview I posted a link to? The U.S. is about 5% of the worlds population yet we are producing 36% of the pollution, how many people does China have?

One of China's excuses for not signing is that the Americans didn't? Hmmmmm.
The two major countries who have signed the Protocol but are not intending to ratify it are the United States and Australia.

Slotz: Democracy Now is a "Lefy rag."
This is a report on the Committee on House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, it has nothing to do with who reported it word for word from video shot Tuedays covering the meeting, but that's OK, attack the meesenger and ignore the message. Brilliant.

No, sorry, paulbAssClown is wrong and just spreading more of his assclown untruth. The USA is the world's largest polluter and producer of carbon emissions. This is uncontroverted.

However, China is rapidly industrializing and may surpass the USA sometime in the next decade or two. This would not be a good development for the planet.

As to the Bush administration wanting to hide the truth about the greenhouse effect, is anyone surprised? His administration is based on lies and untruth and mendacity and subterfuge. The shitslime started a war based on lies.

Ya, I'd say closer to 10 years. Since they make things so cheap for us though, I think we should help them as much as possible contribute all their share of the pollution they can barf up.

Speaking of Global Warming, looks like Canada has a smarter PM these days. He know what's up.. eh?

PM ridiculed Kyoto as socialist scheme
UPDATED: 2007-01-31 02:02:02 MST

By CP

OTTAWA -- Stephen Harper, who now styles himself as a green prime minister, once ridiculed the Kyoto accord as a money-sucking socialist scheme and promised a battle to defeat it.

His scathing view of the global treaty, which questioned the science of climate change, was included in a 2002 fundraising letter sent to members of his now-defunct Canadian Alliance party.

With polls showing the environment is a top priority with voters and Harper keen to bolster his environmental credentials ahead of the next election, the letter could be a big embarrassment.

It was circulated yesterday by the Liberals, who said it unmasks Harper as a climate-change denier.

"Kyoto is essentially a socialist scheme to suck money out of wealth-producing nations," says the letter, signed by Harper.

"Kyoto will cripple the oil and gas industry.

"Workers and consumers everywhere in Canada will lose. THERE ARE NO CANADIAN WINNERS UNDER THE KYOTO ACCORD."

Harper, who now accuses the Liberals of having done nothing to reduce greenhouse gases, went on to promise a "battle" to defeat the Chretien Liberals' efforts to introduce Kyoto-implementation legislation in parliament.

"But we can't do it alone. It will take an army of Canadians to beat Kyoto, just as it did to beat (the) Charlottetown (constitutional accord)."

These days, Harper avoids critcizing the Kyoto accord, and simply dismisses its targets as unattainable.

Slotz: "I post something from Faux News, as you guys like to put it, or Washington Times, or any other right-wing propaganda machine, It gets shot down."

The key word there is "propaganda" and maybe that's why the messenger gets attacked. Usually the message from Fox is "believe us because those other guys are letys." Fox believes that their "Opinions" are good enough to pass as "Fair and Balanced" news and seldom offer up any real factual and credible evidence to back up their claims.

This report takes into account many scientist who believe that humans are 90% of the problem for global climate change and they have been censored by this administration, that's why they are coming forward. Mainstream news only gets what the Bush administration wants you to hear from NASA and other scientist and FOX News and the mainstream media are acting in concert to censor this information as well or at least repeating the censored information.

I would think that one would be wary to find that they are censoring this information and would want to seek out those so called "Leftys", who are the only ones left who are willing to see that this scientific information gets out to the public.

We can all sit on our butts and argue about whos polluting the most and whos treaties are just schemes to make money and totally ignore the problem, or we can actually try to do something about it. Punching each other in the face while the sky is falling doesn't stop the sky from falling and arguing over climate change and global warming does nothing to reverse the effects of green house gasses but it is easier than doing something about it, huh?

There use to be some debate about whether global warming was a problem and whether humans and green house gasses are causing it. Now the debate is now whether or not this is true but how bad is it and how long do we have to do something about it. I don't care how bad it is, or how long we have, 10 years or 20 or even if it's too late to do something about it. Anything that we can do is better than bickering about it and doing nothing.

Seeing how this is an issue that will affect every person on this planet, some worse than others, I don't see how lefty or righty has anything to do with the discussion on this matter other than to divide the people so that we don't think about what we can do to solve this problem.

This story is all over the airwaves in various mags and tv shows, all the nationals because it's just basic news. The only place that won't cover it within a week is maybe Fox News, and even they will probably need to cover it if only to try to butter it up.

This isn't some one magazine's story. A survey was taken of scientists working for the government and I think the number was 46 percent said their results had been changed to change the meaning.

It's just basic news. What a weird world you live in where you don't even know news and deny all news you don't like.

Rather than actually consider the implications of a nonscientific administration actually taking it upon themselves to rewrite science reports you search for ways to show the story is make believe.

Trippy people. Pretend the story is true (as will become obvious within about a month). Do you have any qualms with the nonscientific part of government interfering with the scientific parts results?

I'm guess ing you don't, and hence you, like they, will say anything without regard for truth, just spin.

And that's 'cause you're the soldiers for Jesus, or what?

So strange.

Nope! It Involves more than just energy sources but that is the big one. Transportation of heavy loads takes Oil. Air Travel takes oil. Plastic takes Oil.
Brazil may say they are free of it but its BS. If they have Airplanes that dont use oil based fuels they better cough it up!

At least Brazil is cutting their dependence on Foreign oil with alternative fuels like alcohol...
Check out this artical about "Flex" cars.
http://www.csmonitor.com/2005/1007/p05s01-woam.html
"Alcohol made from sugar cane is becoming the fuel of choice in Brazil, and other countries - so much so that global sugar prices hit a seven-year high this week."

Even if it's just a little bit cleaner, it's better than not. Growing sugar cane is less distructive to the enviroment than oil drilling and it's waste.

Hemp fueled World wars in the past, a very renewable energy with many uses, oil from the seeds for fuel, hemp canvas, rope, clothing, and it doesn't wear out the farm land in the process. Transport this from farms to our communities instead of huge tankers across oceans. War on drugs my ass.
