A couple of suggestions for the moderators/admins/owners..

Any chance of adding SoundForge to the "Audition/C.E.P" forum? Or maybe create a separate forum for SoundForge? I'm sure there are lots of SoundForge users out there (like me).

In addition, how about creating a separate "Recording Techniques" forum, one that is platform independent (similar to the forum of the same name on the Tape Op Message Board). If the goal of this site is to support multiple DAW platforms (which is cool by me), then I think it would be a great idea to get people to post their general recording techniques/ideas/suggestions/recommendations/questions in a dedicated forum, separate from any one particular platform. I also think a platform-independent forum would help foster some real "community" on this site, something that seems to be lacking in recent days.

Thanks for your consideration,

ray

Ray,

We've had a few requests for other Software forums, and we're kicking those ideas around.

As for the Recording Techniques forum, that's really what the 'Recording Booth' forum is for.

Thanks for the feedback...feel free to post additional ideas and suggestions here in this forum, or you can email them to me hook@vsplanet.com.

Hook-

Thanks for the response. Adding SoundForge would be great. Hope it happens.

Yeah, I've checked out Recording Booth, but it seems to be a bit too "general". Lots of "check out my band's song" kind of posts, as well as music theory questions and collaboration requests. Those are fine, but a dedicated "techniques" forum would be great. It just seems that lots of good, solid recording techniques that people post (like mic placement for recording drums, gain staging, use of reverbs/effects, mic selection for vocals, etc., etc.) get buried within the individual platform forums. Especially the vs-2480 forum. Lots of those posts would be better suited to a "Recording Techniques" forum. In fact, those type of posts seem to be dominating the 2480 forum lately. Since I'm a 2480 user, it's great for me, but other vs-planet users might never see those posts.

Since you guys are trying to move away from being tied to any one particular platform (which is a great idea), I think it makes sense to start getting people to post outside of their "home" forum (i.e. their own platform).

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks again,

ray

Ray,

You seem to have hit the nail on the head: most users in the 2480 forum (and other machine forums) don't post in other forums. They only post in 'their' forum.

I agree that it would benefit the community as a whole if people ventured outside 'their' home forum, and explored the other forums.

But, I can't make them do that. The 'supporting' forums are there for those who want to use them.

When we moved to this new version of the forum software, we consolidated a few other forums into the Recording Booth. That would explain why you're seeing posts about music theory and collaborations. Hopefully, folks will get back to posting more generalized recording info there.

Thanks again for the feedback!
