Greetings, All!

I'm sure it's been covered elsewhere here in the forum, but I have a dilemma that I'm having a LOT of trouble solving. First, a little background:

I have a VS-840EX that records to 100mb Zip Disks. I'm sure we can all relate to this situation. I have recorded several album projects over the past few years with it, but the best results came from a CD that I did a couple of years ago. The entire CD was recorded using the 840, but we converted the tracks to .wav files and mixed it using Cubase over at a friend's house.

At the time, he had a typical Iomega 100mb Zip Drive that we put each of the disks into to bring them up onto his laptop. All of the files had an extension of .vr8, so he downloaded a conversion program from the Roland site that converted the files to .wav, loaded the files into Cubase, and we were set.

Now, fast-forward to current day: I now have Cubase on my own laptop and my own 100mb Zip Drive. I have many more disks with .vr8 files on them that I would like to load into Cubase to mix. However, the only file conversion program that I find on Roland's site is the BR Converter. I downloaded it, but it is not working for me. It is not reading the files from the Zip Drive.

This is a pretty big problem for me right now, as I have a studio client from the old days that wants his stuff on .wav files and I can't convert the tracks.

Is there anybody out there who might have the software to convert this stuff? Or, can someone advise me on how to get this done?

Any advice or help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Thanks,

Hello? Is this thing on? Anyone?

Surely there's someone out there who knows what to do, right?

Were these zip discs initialized in the VS or just being used as storage? THe Br8 program will only recognize a zip disc that was initialized in the VS840.

They were all initialized with the VS-840. That's the thing I don't get: I've always understood the BR8 program to work for this, but it's not recognizing my Zip drive. Any suggestions?

(BTW, DrMarvelo, thanks for responding. I was beginning to worry!)

I've never had a problem, got the latest BR8 wav converter program? I thought I read there was one version that didnt work. Also only works for PC not Mac. Also there is another RDAC to wav converter option, converts ALL to wav in one shot as opposed to one or two at a time that I believe works on the 840 tracks, search this fourm for user randygo danielo or check the 1680 forum, theres a sticky there...you'll still want the br8 if you want to go wav to 840 so still with fixing that.

Just want to make sure the computer IS recognizing the presence of the zip drive, right? and the error is something like "not br8 media" or something similar......

I believe the message was something along the lines of "Not a CF Drive".

As far as the BR8 converter program goes, I had downloaded it some time ago, so it might not be the newest version. I'll delete what I have off my computer and download it again tonight and see what happens. Hopefully that's the problem.

Thanks,

The error should be something like "not a Br8 disc" or something similar. You also need i believe that songlist.vr8 and system.vs1 files in order for br8 program to work

Good News!

I looked through the archives again and found a link to the download page for the older (1.4) version of BR converter that we used a couple of years ago. I downloaded it and it worked like a charm!

Thanks!

Just to make sure, was the version actually 1.04?? I believe 1.04 is the newest version, you might have had an older version that perhaps only worked with Boss. The version 1.04 that I have is labeled as Br8wavNew

Of course anything labeled as new when it comes to these products must be taken in the proper context!
